after taking two pictures the batteries are empty

  • Anonymous Apr 14, 2008

"Battery depleted" message comes up even after putting in new batteries.  Sometimes when turning on, even though battery is fully charged/brand new.

i had the same problem, the camera e35 kept saying battery depleated, ten it would cut out and not work.

After 3 months of argueing with currys where my sister bought the camera from, sent it back to you and you replaced it as you said there was a fault in the camera.

But they did not send any instructions with the new camera, can you assist me please.

Glad to know i'm not the only one who's having this problem, only i've tried new batteries, turniong on and off and still no luck. Any other suggestions?

I have similar problem. Battery life is too short. After few shots with fully recharged batterires, then I get the message out of battery. When I replace again with new batteries, the battery indicator shows only 1/3 of battery charge, and lasts for few shots more.

I find if you try to turn the camera on without any batteries in, or with them in the wrong way round (be careful!) then it jolts the camera into realising the battery situation has changed.  So when you put in new batteries it bothers to "search" to see if there are new ones before giving out the "battery depleted" message.  I spent over £20 on rechargeable and lithium batteries before I figured this out!

Hi, i have exact the same problem that "cnscenery" with Pentax K200d. The camera has stopped working, only show depleted battery in the top lcd panel. I already try with many diferent batteries,...

This is a common problem with some Pentax cameras. The only solution that people have found is to turn the camera on and off until the battery indicator show a full battery. You can go to pentaxforum.com to read about others with the problem.

I have a pentex optio m60 it was okey but suddenly it saying battery depleted could me please tell me what is the solution for that and why does it happen

There could be a couple reasons for this:
1. When you have the battery in the charger, does it indicate that the battery is dead or fully charged. I would suggest placing the battery in a universal charger to check to see what the rating is on the battery, a universal charger will indicate the true power left. If the universal charger shows the battery is drained but your charger says it's full, you have a bad charger. If they both indicate full but camera says dead, you have either a power supply issue in the camera or the main board cannot read how much life is actually left in the battery. If your charger says full and the universal says empty, your battery is malfunctioning.
2. Does the camera turn off when it says battery depleted or does it simply keep telling that it's depleted. If the unit doesn't shut off, you have a firmware issue that needs technical repair on. That specific model does not allow you to download updates via USB from your computer, you need to send it to Pentax for repair.

Pentax k200d BATTERY PROBLEM

The battery charge indicator is temperature sensitive. If you switch off and on again, do you still get the low battery warning? Have you tried with a second set of batteries - either rechargeable, or lithium or alkaline. I would do this in a warm room, and try it with new alkaline cells. You lose some of the functions, but if the indicator say charged, and you can take a shot, then the body is OK.
Call me old-fashioned, but I use a multimeter on all NEW batteries to make sure they are functional - I bought a card of cheap LR44s and the first three were either dead or low on voltage.

E10 and s45 same problem

the batteries needed for the cameras are quite high powered

though the batteries show that they are fuly charged most times they have lost their actual capacity of power storage in them so not being able to supply enough to start the camera best way to test this is to start the camera on preview mode if this works then you will need to buy a new set of rechargable batteries, i would suggest to take batteries in the range of 2000MAh to 2500MAh and

the normal batteries will not be able to sustain long even for normal lens open and retract functions, instead of normal batteries try LR6 varieties (eg: Duracell, Energizer, etc)

Battteries depleted messageon Pentax Espio E40, even though have tried brand new batteries.

HI. this seems to be a battery scanning fault in the programming. try to reset the board by pulling the battery and removing all power of 30 minutes. completely drain all power from this unit for 30 minutes. if this message continues after you have rest the programming, this will confirm a serious fault within the internal program. you will have to send this device back to a pentax repair terminal for reprogramming.

My pentax m20 optio wont turn on.. it says battery deplete..

Hi there - these are older posts, but I just experienced this problem (it appears to be pretty common). The fix I discovered (that works), is to insert your batteries (make sure they're fresh), and then press and hold the "on" button plus "Menu" button, together at the same time. Hold until the firmware resets (a message will pop up on screen and the camera will reset). Voila! It works again for as long as the batteries are in and operational. Also note that in my case, if the batteries are taken out, I have to go thru the reset process again, but at least I have the camera back up and running. Hope this helps others!!

Camera says batteries are low but batteries are new

Try cleaning the battery contacts in the camera with a pencil eraser. If there is any sign of corrosion on the contacts, take a q-tip, dip it in white vinegar and clean the contacts....

Pentax A10 won't power on

I've seen a few online posts about this while I was looking for answers because the same thing is happening with my w10. It's just over a year, and when I turn it on it seems like it is trying to start up, does a couple of beeps, and then powers down.

It's too bad, I LOVED this camera, and have since bought a sony which I detest, but if this is common I can't afford to be replacing the pentax every year. very sad.

Dead?

Have exactly the same prob, my camera worked for 3 years without any probs, except that the alkaline batteries didn't have a long life...tried rechargeable batteries as well, but since three weeks ago it simply says, "batteries depleted", nothing works, tried everything...sending it to Pentax after the warranty is over is far more expensive than buying a new cam...really sorry for that, but don't think I gonna buy a new Pentax again...
