I am not a repair professional. I am a 78 year old man who has been making his own repairs for about 50 years. So the machine ID doesn't mean much to me. I came to fixya looking for a schematic for an really old AM/FM radio and just happened to see that more than 4,700 people were asking for help with a washer repair. I recently had a washer repair of my own and at that time I found an excellent video on youtube which showed me how to take my machine apart. This video (direct drive washer repair) made it possible for me to do my own repair. You probably don't have any idea of the wonderful help you can get from youtube videos. Your first stop should be at youtube. Just search for the help you need. You could search for "clothes dryer repair" or "clothes washer repair" or "dishwasher repair". If you are not able to view and/or download the videos, or after you've seen all you want to see, I suggest you go directly to www.applianceaid.com where they have very good step by step trouble shooting and repair information on washers, dryers. and dishwashers as well as other appliances. Another excellent site is www.acmehowto.com If you have a direct drive top load washer and need help taking it apart these youtube videos are wonderful help. I was so impressed with them that when I saw all these people needing help, I wanted to tell them about the videos. If you look at the back of your top load washer and the panel is solid (no small inspection plate to remove, which would indicate you have a v-belt drive) chances are you have a direct drive and this video (direct drive washer repair) is just what you need. After you've seen all the appropiate videos, or if you have a belt drive washer, you will probably still need help in determining what the trouble is and how to fix it. I suggest you go to www.applianceaid.com where they have very good trouble shooting and repair nformation on most washers and dryers, dishwashers and many other household appliances. I think you'll find what you need there. Another excellent site for DIY help is www.acmehowto.com Don't worry about the timer on a washer, they hardly ever go bad. I realize I haven't solved your problem for you, but I hope I have sent you where you can get help to solve the problem. Good luck with it.

Why does the machine move noisily at the start of spin?

There are heavy springs and a couple of friction dampers that stabilize the drum to control out of balance loads. If its a front loader machine, pull it out, turn off the power. Look at the top back edge of the top lid and there are usually a couple of screws retaining the lid. Remove those and slide the lid either forwards or backwards to release it. Get a flashlight and have a look in the top to see if a spring has come adrift. If you are not sure what to do get a neighbour with DIY skills to have a look. The spring may have failed but most times its just popped off. If you need a new one take all the info of the stickers on the back of the machine.

How to Change Lid Switch on Roper RAS6233KQ Top Load Washer

Disconnect both hot and cold water line from the water inlet valve. Mark the hot and cold so you don't get them mixed up. There are 2 philips head screws at the back of the machine, holding down the console to the cabinet. One in each rear corner. Slide the console forward slightly and tilt back. There are 2 metal clips that hold the cabinet and top to the back panel. Use a screwdriver and pry both clips up. ( pay attention on how to put the clips back). Disconnect the harness to the lid switch. Now stand in front of the cabinet and tilt forward towards you while pulling forward. Cabinet should slide forward. Once the cabinet has been separated fro the back panel, lift the lid up. On the right side of the lid you will see 2 screws. remove screws. (theses are the screws that secure the lid switch to the top). Now go to the back of the cabinet at the opening and look in the corner where you just removed the 2 screws, You will see a green ground wire screwed to the cabinet. Should be a 5/16 screw. (not 100% sure). Remove screw. there are 2 small clips holding the tubing for the wire harness in place. Popping both clips out should release the lid switch. Now disconnect harness holder from the top of the cabinet by pressing in the plastic clips at the side. Pay attention to the direction of the plug. Put the new plug in the same direction as the one you removed. Once you have inserted the plug and it snaps back into place, thread the tubing back behind both metal clips and clip those back in place. Secure the ground wire back to the cabinet. Now mount the lid switch back to the cabinet. You can do this with the lid up. Secure both screws into the lid switch. Close and open the lid to test the lid switch. You should hear a clicking sound. Now its time to put the cabinet back on.
Standing in front of the cabinet, tilt it forward towards you and line it up with the base frame. Tuck the front bottom lip on the cabinet under the lip of the base. Make sure that the tabs sticking up from the base lines up with the bottom of the cabinet. Be patient, may take you awhile to get the cabinet back in position.
Slide the back panel forward back in place. make sure it tucks into the back of the cabinet. Once its in place, now you can reinstall the two metal clips that secure the back panel to the cabinet. reconnect the harness to the lid switch. Tilt the console back down into place inserting the tabs on the side into place on the cabinet. Once in place slide the console backwards into place. Washer does not drain or spin. don't know how to release the plastic release latches to access the lid switch.

Hello,
On that stack washer/dryer the wayto get to lid switch is
remove diagonal panel between washer and control panel
in the back of washer top will either be 2 brass colored clips or in the very back egde of top will be 2 5/16th inch hexhead screws
for clips place a small screwdriver in front of that clip and pop clips off and slide top forward
for the screws remove screws from behind top in the left/right corner..pull top forward a bit and lift up a little the plug for the lid switch will be in front right side..squeeze the release for that plug, unplug swicth plug then remove top

in both cases lid switch asm. will be on right side of top on the underpart of it

LS error

The machine control detected that the lid switch is not functioning properly. Raise the top part of the washer to gain access to the lid switch.

Disconnect the machine from the power source. Gently pry the emblem from the front of the machine and remove the T20 torx screw hidden behind it. Slide the top of the washer forward and raise its front. Prop it up high enough to allow easy access to the lid switch.

The lid switch is activated by an actuator (part number 19119) mounted on a hinge. It will not work properly if the actuator is damaged.

Check the operation of the lid switch using a multimeter. Disconnect the lid switch wiring harness and connect the test leads of the multimeter (set to X1 or ohm) to the terminals of the lid switch and activate it. The multimeter should read zero ohms while the lid switch is activated and open when deactivated.

Replace the lid switch if it is broken or if it fails the test above. Remove the lid switch mounting screw and install the new lid switch. Reconnect the wiring harness and slide the top of the washer back into position. Reinstall the T20 torx screw and the emblem.

It sounds like the lid lock is either stuck or broken,You will need to lift the top hob by removing the two plastic lugs where the lid rests & removeing the screws it will then lift up and you will be able to remove the lock to inspect it,Also you can remove the lid in the up position by pulling vertically to make it a bit easier,Hope this helps Cheers.

i remember there are three screws - one in the middle as well. may be wrong. having undone all screws, just bank front of top with hane and it will slide back.
however, no need to remove top to replace heater - take back panel off and heater is exposed. and how do you know it needs replacing if you haven't tested it??

Kenmore washer 24642300

The lid switch has failed. To replace lid switch;
REMOVE POWER, lift the console by removing the trim on either side. Grasp the top of the trim and pull forward to expose a screw. Remove both screws and lift console.

1. You will find a lid switch connector (white in color). Unplug the switch from the connector.

2. There will be two brass colored clips. Place a flat blade screwdriver straight down into the opening on top of the washer and into the groove of the clip. Push the screwdriver down and away from you and the clip will release.

3. Open the lid of the washer and place your hand under the front rim of the opening (DO NOT grab the wash tub). Tilt and slide cabinet forward to remove.

The lid switch can now be accessed and replaced.
