I beleive a student changed the settings in my lab. However, the screen is black and that makes it difficult to go back and reset it. Oh for a little push pin reset button.

I have been having the same problem with my hpvs17 monitor when i start to use my web browser on linux distros. Now, for the next few days i am going to try my system on a regular crt monitor. if the monitor does not crash, than i will have to say that the hpvs17 monitor has a defect. It seems that when i go online, while i am in the middle of searching something, the monitor just shuts off and i get "input signal out of range".

I have an HP 1730 LCD monitor on a Compaq Presario S5100 desktop PC running Windows XP, up to date on patches as of 2009 Feb 25. For no apparent reason, the "input signal out of range" error message started appearing when the machine switches from boot mode (which looks OK) to regular windows mode. (My configuration does not HAVE a "safe mode" boot, by the way, so the usual advice doesn't apply.) Was the fault in the monitor, or the computer?

Step 1: see whether the computer is actually booting or not. Result: Over the home LAN, I was still able to access the shared directory on the suspect machine. This is good.

Step 2: swap the LCD monitor for an old Compaq MV720 CRT monitor. Result: the monitor does not like the input signal (essentially, the out-of-range error by another name), so the video signal IS faulty.

Step 3: reboot the PC with the analog monitor still attached. Result: the system boots up just fine, so there's something wrong with the way the PC boots with the LCD.

Step 4: swap video cables (without rebooting). Result: the LCD displays the working desktop, so the LCD display is still good, but there's still something wrong with the handshake between the LCD and the PC during boot. But we still don't know whether the LCD monitor is failing to produce the right Plug-and-Play sequence, as it used to, or the PC is no longer correctly interpreting the PnP sequence, so it's mis-configuring the video signal for the monitor.

Step 5: Back everything up, like you always should have been. (Always the last step, after a computer failure. ;-) )

I TRIED TO RESET THE RESOLUTION. THE SCREEN WENT BLANK AND THE MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN SAYS IMPUT SIGNAL OUT OF RANGE

Hello,
I believe the max resolution this LCD can support is 1440 x 900 / 75 Hz. If you set your display resolution higher then that, you will receive the input signal out of range error. Your LDC turns off to protect it self from the invalid settings. If you can not change it back once your PC boots to windows, you may have to do it in save mode by pressing F8 once you power on your PC and before the windows loading screen starts.

My Element flx 2210 shows "no signal" when it's turned on. Suggestions?

It looks like this unit will accept several inputs, and it is not autosensing (detects automatically)

On the side, there is a button that is labled "INPUT"
Push this several times until a picture appears.
The must be something attached to the TV for it to display a picture.
VCR, DVD, anything. If it does not see an input it will display
"NO INPUT"

On Pwr up logo appears then LCD returns to stanby Black screen

I will assume the monitor is staying on during the boot process all the way until Windows loads.
If that is the case, then...
  • Start the computer
  • wait until the initial bios/logo screens for your motherboard go away.
  • Press F8 to get the Windows recovery boot menu
  • If you see the Windows Logo you would normally see then press rest and try again.
  • In the recovery screen, select SAFE MODE
  • Boot into Windows and uninstall your video card.
  • Reboot the computer the normal way through the start menu.
  • When your PC starts back up it should then reinstall the video card, and set itself automatically back to 60khz as default.
Let me know how you go =)

Input Signal Out Of Range

Some monitors have low resolution, that if it doesn't support that resolution then you'll expect an "input signal out of range" message on screen. try to boot on "safe mode" if it works then you have to lower your screen resolution at "display properties" if not then the monitor has a defective data cable. ;)
