GPS Won't Turn On

Our TomTom has been working fine for the past four months. However, last week I arrived at a destination and when I was ready to return home, the GPS would not turn on. When I have it plugged into the car, the green light at the top next to the on/off button is illuminated, but there is nothing on the screen. I've tried the reset button, but that did not work. I'm hoping there's an easier solution than sending it in for repairs which could take weeks. Any ideas? Could it be the battery? Thanks! i went to switch my tom tom on and it would not work. i tried to reset and even tried to see if the chip was not in properly but it would not work. it is showing a orange screen with the tom tom picture. please what do i do as i rely on it to get me about Funmi TomTom One XL Purchased it new was able to set the unit up and go through the set up process. Turned the unit off for no more than a day. I have tried turning it back on, the green light comes on when plugged into charger, still have the same problem of not turning on when charging. Tried reseting the unit and still no success, Please help. Have the same problem. Just purchased Tomtom 520 on 19/1/08. Used a week ago and worked fine. Went to use today. Switched on unit, plugged in car charger and started car. Unit switched off then on when car started. Set directions and pulled away. Went a few yards when unit switched off then on again then died. Been dead ever since. Will not switch on. Have tried reset several times to no effect. Tried recharging via computer again no effect although green charging light glows.

My Tom Tom battery was low in the car. The unit screen turned off although there was some battery life remaining. Then keeping it pluged into the car outlet the green light wouldn't even illuminate. Then I plugged it into the house wall outlet. The green light and screen illuminated. I left it on and also recharged it. Hours later the screen went blank and no green light. I couldn't turn it on. I hit the reset button. I plugged it into the wall outlet. The green light illuminated but the screen will not illuminate. What do I do?

I have a similar problem with a TomTom Go-510. It is a refurbished unit. It worked the first day, Then, after it was turned off for a couple hours, I was unable to turn it back on. I recharged and re-set. It worked another day correctly. Then, after I plugged the unit into my computer and added a route, the unit stopped functioning again. It turns to the video which instructs not to remove the card, and this repeats again and again. I've tried re-setting and have had no luck.

I have the same problem. I guess Tom Toms sit in the stores to long. My battery lasted around 6 months. They do have a 2 year warranty, but i rather change it myself. Thanks to LauraRN for the help. I just order it, but i'm sure this will repair it. When i leave it on the home charger and will come on hours later. Then i notice the low battery warning on. Thanks again for FixYa

My 510 was doing the exact same thing.
I called customer support and they helped me get it working again.
866-486-6866 is the number but here is what they had me do.
I had to push down the reset button for 15 seconds (the reset is in a small cut out near where you plug in the charger on the bottom.you will need to use a pin and you will feel the pin push in the button if you have it in the right spot.)
Then release the reset and hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds. the screen should come right back on.
If you need more help I suggest calling the 866# they are very helpful.

My tomtom start s/n BL2025B90193 gives inaccurate arriving at destination update map and my software per tomtom home/connect. It says arriving at destination I have not arrived at my destination

This will happen when the map info is incorrect ... by a short distance or a long ways.
If your map is not up-to-date, this may happen. If this is the case, updating your map may help.
The tomtom (navigation) software enables you to correct the map data and to share it (using your tomtom HOME software) with tomtom / others. Hopefully, the correction will be verified by TomTom (map data provider) and the map data will be corrected in the next release of the map.

My newly bought tomtom one 140s has given me inaccurate directions.the location was on the leftside of the street but the gps pointing the opposite ,and one time i arrived already to my destination but the...

This is a very common problem with ANY brand of GPS. Even if you have the most current and updated map, there are some mistakes in the GPS addresses. It should only happen occasionally, maybe once every couple of weeks. As I said before, it's not unheard of for TomTom, Garmin, Magellan or any bradn of GPS

Tomtom One not doesn't calculate arrival time correctly.

thats normal- estimate is always higher the units go by speed limits and you shave time off trip units adjust accordingly

In the last week I have bought 2 tomtom ones. one was a 125 the other a 130. Both have given me the same problem. On arrival of my destination it is taking me anywhere from 1/8 mile to 1/2 mile away from...

First thing to check is make sure your maps are up to date. Run your device through TomTom Home and make the proper updates. 1/2 a mile away seems too far of a distance to be off by. I've taken trips on my TomTom and even other brands for that matter, and it is not unusual to be slightly off or announce the arrival a few hundred feet too early. If it is navigating you to the wrong street, you need to update your maps. The maps are very reliable on my device so use that as a starting point.

GPS Won't Turn On

If its a battery problem the unit still works while charging!

If not it sounds like the OS or SD card has become corrupt.

you'll have to wipe both clean & start again...

tomtom will talk you through this either via an email or on the phone.

Tomtom - time of arrival

It is possible that you have the TomTom set for "walking routes" or "bicycle routes" or "limited speed." (I have a TomTom One 3rd edition, so if you have a different model the menus/icons may be different, but it's worth a shot.)

Click on the main part of the screen, while on the main navigation screen. Then click on "Change preferences." Then click the blue arrow to scroll to the Preferences 3 of 5 page. Click on "Planning preferences." Choose the planning preferences that you want. Hope this helps...

GPS Won't Turn On

Amazing what reading through the support page at TOMTOM reveals... I have the XL so no SD card to remove, but the support page explains that a hard reset by holding the power button takes 15 SECONDS. That's actually a really long time if you watch a clock. I pressed it and waited it out, and it worked. Powered right up. Not sure if I lost all my favorites and stuff but I have them backed up using TomTom Home anyway....
