My HP Pavilion dv6000t PC is not reading audio CDs or DVDs. When I insert a standard CD or DVD, it just spins and makes noise but does not play. I am using Windows Vista as my operating system. Please help.

Can hp Pavilion a300n read Dvds ? i want to watch a dvd movie. But,when i insert the disc into the tray, the computer doesn't detect anything.. nothing shows up. What should i do?

Yes and no, Yes if it id fitted with a DVD player/recorder (normally says DVD on the front of the tray door) if not it will say CD. They are quite cheap to buy and easy to replace. Just as an after thought. I presume you can play CDs in it? if not then you might have a driver problem or it might be broken, try a music cd in it to check.

My cd burner is only playing my audio cds and is not recognizing my blank cds.

did you have installed any CD Burning Tool
(like a NERO,aShampo,Alcohol 120%,etc) ?
if you don't have yet, install it into your PC.
but if you have ones, check the option or setting your Burning tools.choose "auto play if CD/DVD blank inserted".

Hp CD\DVD rom not reading CDs, but is reading DVDs?

cd/dvd rom is probably not working ,try using a lense cleaner disc if that doesn't work it's cheap enough to just install a new drive DVD/Rw as they are about £20.00 new.

Sony NEC OptiArc can't read but can write!!!

Try to play the cd that you have wrote with other machine if it was able to read with other machine then your dvd is faulty.

If it cannot play with other machine, then there is a problem with the software that you use in cd writing or the dvd rom drive. Try to re-install both drivers, then play a cds.

Dvd drive will read/play dvds but will not recognize a cd

go to safemode and try reading CDs in safemode. If your burner still can't read CDs then it's most likely bad. You could get an external usb burner.

HP Pavillion dv6121tx 15.4" notebook problem with DVD

Hi

It sounds like a hardware fault on the drive itself. The laser and focussing mechanisms are different for CDs and DVDs. The fact that the drive can read DVDs fine suggests that the laser and lenses can no longer focus correctly to deal with CDs.

Replacement of the drive would be the only fix, although you might find it a lot easier to buy an external USB DVD drive.

HP Pavillion not reading audio CD

It is possible that this is a drive issue, I've seen drives that one of the optical reader device has gone out, but generally it'e the DVD reader and will only read CD's. It's very rare that the CD reader goes and the DVD reader works. Before you replace drive, if it's only music CD's (you didn't mention program CD's), then update your media player. If it still won't play, then unistall the media player and completely reload it. At this point you can replacse the drive.

HP dv4000 laptop CD not reading

Hi

Type of media settings might be the issue but making a change for standard CD/DVD recording (it affects reading too) Issue can be resolved. Right click on the CD/DVD drive (Usually D drive ) click on properties and select and choose the recording option. Click the enable CD recording for this drive option

Click on apply and OK. Try again. You may try after reboot the computer. If issue persist please post so we can think about some alternate solutions.
