Most games require you have a certain amount of mbps (speed of connection) to prevent lagging. a slow connection may be your problem. if you are using a wireless adapter try actually plugging the ethernet cable into the console. also, have you set up your network options and saved them to a memory card?

Ps3 plays videos but not games
Before doing anything else, you should run a lens cleaning disk for dvds through ps3.

Also, im willing to bet it will play ps2 games, since they run on a different format then ps3 ...

If you can read ps2 games, then you dont need to replace the drive unit. If after running the lens cleaner, you still cant play ps3, or ps2 games..

Then you may need to replace the drive unit

How to?
The Ethernet port works with PS2 Games that are setup for Online play. This Port allows for Online plays with the PS2. If should not be that complicated when you have a online game loaded.
