BUNN BX-B Coffee Maker Leaking

When water put in to make coffee, starts leaking from small hole underneath the water reservoir. What do we do?

  • Anonymous Sep 01, 2008

My coffee maker is brand new and only used twice. Now when trying to fill it up it leaks out of two small holes on the bottom of the black tank.

How to fix a leak on a bunn NHBX coffee maker

The leak is most likely between the water reservoir and the tank. Bunn uses a soft silicone seal for that connection that gets compressed over time and starts to leak water whenever you make a pot of coffee.

It's planned obsolescence. Bunn won't sell you a new seal. So you have to improvise. But it's simple enough to do.

Remove the top cover and the plastic water reservoir right below it. Don't tamper with the little valve that opens when you close the lid.

Look for the seal. It could be stuck to the bottom of the reservoir, or sitting loosely on top of the metal tank. Make sure to preserve its top-to-bottom orientation (don't put it back in upside down).

Apply a narrow bead of clear silicone into the grooved side of the seal. Press the seal gently onto the reservoir, then apply a thin layer to the smooth side.

Re-install the reservoir and reassemble the unit.

Bunn nhb disassemble

Most likely is that the seal between the water reservoir and the tank is leaking. Not uncommon. If you can find a replacement seal go for it, otherwise the old one can be made serviceable by coating both sides with a thin bead or layer of clear silicone. Allow to cure for 24 hours before powering the coffee maker back up.

My Bunn Coffee maker is leaking water from the bottom.

I had the same problem. On mine (and probably yours) the problem was the seal between the (upper) plastic water reservoir and the lower (metal) heating reservoir. No replacement seal is available.

I fixed mine by coating both sides of the old seal with aquarium grade clear silicone sealer - available at pet supply stores. Just a light (1/16") coating is all that's required. Carefully re-assemble and allow the sealer to cure for 24 hours.

I did that over a year ago, and it hasn't leaked a drop ever since.

Bunn coffee maker leaks all over the counter. What

there's probably a 'silicon rubber' hose that feeds hot water to the 'grounds basket'- it may be loose, or damaged. is it leaking water, or coffee?? we have a bunn 8-cup, which has a pre-heated water tank that brews a pot in about 3 min. energy waster, but when you need coffee, you need coffee!!! is your filter holder properly centered? is the carafe lid hole clean and un-obstructed?
if it's leaking water, and not too costly to replace- you may consider replacing it with a new one!
good luck!

Bunn coffee maker leaking from underneath the bottom

Please get the model and the date code from the bottom of the machine and contact customer serivce. Depending on the date code, there might be a seal kit available or the machine can be replaced at no cost if 3 years old or less. If it is over 3 years old and the seal kit isn't available, the machine will be replaced at a reduced price.

Water leaking

The silicon seal inside the coffee maker tends to disintergrate. Bunn Inc. does not sell parts for the inside of the coffee makers, but a seal kit can be purchased through a small appliance repair center or repaired for a small cost. Kit is about $8.00 at most places.
