Electrolux Epic 6500 Powerhead Motor

The cannister works but not the powerhead. When I took it apart I found the motor rusted and it will not turn even the slightest bit. Where can I find a motor replacement for the powerhead?

  • wkirk4 Dec 02, 2008

I cleaned the brushes on my motor for the powerhead, but it still won't work. Could the motor be dead which is 13 years old, and if so, where is a good place to buy one? thanks

Could be the connections inside the swivel just above the powerhead. They slide on and could come off if the powerhead is abused in some odd way...

OOPS, I missed the rest of your post. As for finding a new motor, you might want to check partstore.com, but I've found them to charge about 3x the price I can get parts elsewhere. Good luck!

I have good suction on the hose but none at the powerhead? Has New Belt & checked for clogs??

Have you checked the motor on the powerhead? It runs on a separate motor from the vacuum cleaner. Also make sure the belts in the powerhead are good. Hope this helps.

The powerhead brush died. The vacuum works just fine, but the brush doesn't.

there could be 2 reasons for this problem.

one) the powerhead is dead legit as in there is no power coming to it or the motor is actually dead.

2) something jammed in the brush and popped the reset button. The reset button is a red button located as your looking at the back of the powerhead on the right side. Usually a red square. Push it and it SHOULD start up again.

That being said, if you have done the reset button and it still does not work, that unit I beleive has either a 2 or 5 year warranty (cannot remember dont have the documentation in front of me) and if it is still covered under warranty for you, take it to your closest Vacuum repair shop. Do take the hose and powerhead with the cannister unit.

good luck

The plugin indicator light is on and the unit won't run but the powerhead will. Is the motor bad?

The motor could be bad. Sometimes the carbon brushes will get stuck from the fine dust buildup over the years and will loose connection with the comutator. Take the vac to your Aerus/Electrolux dealer/shop for repair.

Hi I have an electrolux vacumm cleaner, super J model. My problem is that the powerhead only works if the switch is in the off position. vacumm motor works in the on position, opposite of each other. Can...

Looks like there's an interchanged wires in your vacuum. Both the motor and the powerhead must go together. Check it up. Leave the
motor wiring connection intact. Just tinker and check the powerhead
wiring connection .

What size/model bags do I need for my Electrolux Epic 6500 SR vacuum?

You need an Electrolux Cannister bag to fit pre 2001 Series cannisters. You can fin them at a VAC Service center or thru AERUS Electrolux. Buy only a 4 ply bag, nothing thinner.

Powerhead no longer working

If you can hear the power nozzle motor running, but the belt doesn't spin, it is most likely the belt. You will have to get the belt from an Aerus dealer or a Vac shop. If you want to put the belt on yourself, you can. There or five or six screws on the bottom of the power nozzle that need to be removed and the cover should come off. Once the cover is off, you will see the belt and how to change it. Good Luck!!

Electrolux Epic overheating

It stays closed until the temp. is excedded, then opens. Does the motor shaft turn easily or does it drag. If it drags, then that is what is causing the heat problem. Not sure what it should read, it could be bad, but it should read low ohmns, so it is hard to say.
