Having trouble when i turn on my printer

When i turn on my printer, the scanner light goes to the right side but instead of stopping and get on stand-by mode, it goes more and more until it gets on the edge and then it starts to make an irritating sound. After 5 minutes the noise stops but the whole printer scanner doesn't work (busy).

    i have the same problem

i turn it on and it just starts to make the irrating sound and the cancel bottom doesnt work(?) to stop it then it finally says SCANNER FAILURE--turn off then on again

my problem is fixed. The power solutions didnt work. My problem had nothing to do with not enough power.
I had to open the devise and clean the mirrors underneath the scanner light. It seems that the mirrors use was to find the home position of the scanner light, and because of the dirt that they have the scanner couldnt locate the home position and went further on and started to make the usual irritating noise.

Hi,

I understand that you are receiving Scanner failure error.

Please follow the below given instructions to get the issue resolved.

Please remove the All-in-One Printer from the Power Surge Protector and plug it directly into a wall Power outlet, as the surge protector may not provide enough power to printer.

Let us power cycle your All-in-one to remove any static electricity in your All-in-one.

Please perform the step given below to power cycle the unit after removing the print cartridges from the printer:

1. Verify that the unit is switched on. Unplug the all-in-one from power and disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug in the power only
4. Repeat steps 2-3 two more times.
5. On the third time after plugging the unit into power, reconnect the USB cable from the all-in-one to your computer.

Please try installing the below patch and check for the result:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=oj-14037-3&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=90809&os=228&lang=en

Just copy and paste the entire link into the Internet browser's address bar and press enter

If the issue persists, try resetting the All-in-one to factory defaults by following the below given instructions:

Note:
A semi-full reset will do the following:
The user settings to the factory defaults, Language and country settings on some models, Fax logs, Fax headers, Fax speed dial information.

Reset the All-in-One to the factory default settings by using these instructions:

1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on.

2. Press and hold Cancel and the Right Arrow while plugging in the power cord.

Continue holding until it displays S Full Reset message in the front panel of the All-in-One.
This should resolve the issue.

Regards,
Lawrence

The scanner has problem with autoparking. On printer start it move some distance to the right and then move back to the left. The detection of the left start position was probably wrong and the scanner wanted still move to the left. I disassembled the top printer part, cleared the scanner, blew the dust, disconnected and reconected connector to step motor and reassembly all together. And the printer is ok.

Will not shut down/ paper constantly jams. makes grinding sound

I had a 7170 series that gave similar, not quite as bad as yours, problems. Lexmark is a good name quality all in one. But, I believe it's time to upgrade. These rollers and drums are very easily put out of sync. And from there on you'll have nothing but troubles. The scanner situation is probably forming a very light coat of rust on the out rail and causing it to hang up. I honestly wouldn't put much more money or stress(your own) into this machine. Thanks, Dana.

HP F2180 not scanning

I was having the same trouble. All you do is turn the printer on and make sure there is paper in the tray for it to print onto (obviously), then lift the lid (keeping it open) and place the piece of paper you are scanning onto the glass. The side you want to scan needs to be face down in the bottom left hand corner. Then instead of pressing the scan button (which did nothing for me either) press the black or colour button that is above it, depending on whether you want to scan in colour or just black and white. Worked for me! Hope it works for you too.

Scanner problem

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the scannner. Scanner's can be tough. Try disconnecting USB cable and reconnecting too. How recently did the scanner work? Try reinstalling the scanner software/driver. Also see if you can trouble shoot by right clicking on scanner icon from control panel, scanner.
repost if none of these work. thanks.

Trying to leave Machine

Do you receive an error message? Should be AF.

Open the scanner as done when connecting the usb cable. There is an "Z" looking cover going from panel to the right rear side. Open cover and simply take the flatcable out and reconnectit again to printers main board.

Scanner belt slipping

Check flatcable connection to main circuit board:

Open cover and release the "Z" cover (right side) which hides the flatcable. Simply stick the cable to mainboard.
