Sata hard disk drive on asus p4v8x-x motherboard

I faced the same problem with this mobo...I needed a SATA HDD for data storage, while the system was on a PATA HDD. The drive was a WDC 1600 AAJS, a SATA2 compatible one and to make it work, I had to jumper it down to SATA 1. (5-6 pins as I remember) I also set my BIOS the way it was described above. (ACPI 2-disable, APIC-disable) Then at restart, BIOS recognized and listed it. Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 works with it seamlessly.
As I ran through several sites, I saw that old power supplies can also cause similar problem,. If you connect a SATA drive with 3.3V needs, since old PSUs can feed only with molex-SATA power converter cable and that does not provide 3.3V.

I MANAGED TO FIX THIS ANNOYING PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE JUMPERS OF MY HDD FROM CURRENT POSITION TO NEXT ONE.
I THINK I PUT IT ON CABLE SELECT AS THERE IS NO SIGN IN MY HDD.
I USED 160GB WD H.D 7200

I think you should install via raid tool from asus driver cd then check in control panel --> administrative tools--> computer management and you click to disk management
the sata hd will dectected by the computer so you can format it
you must reboot first after via raid tool instalation
i manage this way and succeed on my 500 gb sata drive

Okay. If your board has SATA connection slots it most definitely is SATA compatible. Check on your motherboard how many SATA slots you have, make sure that your HDD is connected to on the Mboard with any other drive in a numerical order (on the Mboard right next to the SATA slot it should read SATA 1 or SATA 2 ........). If that does not work plug is you HDD drive loosely so that when you switch on your computer you can listen to the HDD. should it emit a humming sound, meaning its powering up the problem could lie with your SATA slot or SATA Data Cable, try a different DATA cable if this does not work try blowing air into the SATA slot on the Mboard, If no luck then maybe the slot is burnt out or malfuntioning. Should you not hear a humming sound coming from your HDD then its either faulty or the there is no power going to it. try to alternate between the cable of your power supply. Try these and Please let me know how you go.

What most People forget is direct to handle with the latest bios flash update , because of the marketing technical difference in the build time of mobo build revisions like a suggestion INTEL or ECS and more brands have build different revisions like rev 1.0 or 1.1 but the first way is to look also for the serialnumber on the motherboard before because of some are build for new support for a new model processor and do not forget to look for the right build revision before flashing the bios and always make shure the bios is in defaultmode (for some older bios brands its neccesary) when flash it. The motherboards coming in the shops but the software and bios is not allways ready , Creative labs is a company that have made in early 2000 cams with that problem that people without internet , cannot working with some hardware combinations without flashing firmwares or bios.
In these days 2016 its much better but sometimes there are firmware problems can be by SSD or motherboard bios to support the later build processors and sata for AHCI or IDE native mode.

I have problem same with my motherboard asus p4v8x-x can't found hhd sata seagate sata st 38215as all your solution i try but not run why and why?

Just to verify, I am running xp pro sp3. prior to getting the sata hdd running i installed VIA Raid controller 3149 and VIA Bus Master IDE Controller. I then cloned the sata, disconnected the ide hdd, connected the sata hdd restarted and it worked. i also jumpered the sata hdd to ensure it ran at a slower speed because (i read this somewhere on the net) this board does have sata but it runs at i think 150 and not the full sata speed. anyway i still touch wood when i hit the start button and its still running well.

I suspect your board does sata drives.instead check for a drive with ide connector..

Hi! I attached my 80GB hard disk drive on my asus p4v8x-x motherboard but my motherboard cannot detect my hard drive. Is my board not capable of handling Sata drives?. Thank You

This may help - To some I may be a complete novice and I will admit I am still learning by my mistakes. I made sure that I had ALL the latest drivers and bios downloads possible - still hdd was not recognized by windows on its own. I also had a ide hdd attached and my sata hdd was seen as just a second drive with the same volume as the ide hdd. My final try before the M/B went in the bin was to go to the hdd's website (in my case Seagate) where i downloaded a Seagate Disc Wizard. I then cloned from my ide hdd unto the sata hdd and like magic (sorry for the pun) the sata hdd was recognized in its full glory. It's now running just the way it should and I am a very happy person. I do hope this will help some one else. Cheers.
