Cant get my zdt6053 dishwasher working. press the on/off switch and a green light will flash but will go off again and nothing happens. please help. Ray

Please double check that you've cleaned out any old food stuck at bottom or sides of dishwasher. Also, please not the last time the dishwasher worked and whether you performed any new procedures just after this point.

Control panel which is a bit sensitive might need re-booting. Mine did the same and had a mind of its own, doing what it wanted, lights flashing all over the place, not completing the wash etc etc.
Switch off the machine and unplug from the mains. Leave for 10 minutes.
Plug back in, switch the machine on to your required programme and if ,like me, you are lucky, your machine should work again. If it happens again in the future you know what to do. Failing that go to the Hotpoint website, find the customer service number and ask if there is anything else you can do yourself to solve the problem, before paying for a service call. Hi ,When this happens I keep the button with the letter "P" Pressed until the fault lifgt resets,my row of buttons is inside the top edge of the unit.

call sears, 1-800-4MY-HOME. They have a trouble-shooting department that will get rid of this problem. It is caused by water temperature being wrong at the start of the cycle.... blah, blah, blah. The representative will tell you to push a certain set of buttons in a certain order and that unlocks the dishwasher.

A blinking light, and possibly no lights, with the door closed may indicate faulty door switches (very common on newer models). Depending on the model, the switches can be removed, cleaned and put back

Is there a reset button on it? If so, press that. There are also sequences of buttons which one has to push to reset it. These are kept secret. Try pressing Hi Temp and Heated Dry, turn loose and press again within Five seconds. Or turn off the electricity and see if that resets it

QuietGuard3: Clean light flashing 7 times? Press Heated Dry, press Normal Wash, then press Heated Dry again and press Normal Wash again (that's 4 button-presses) and that should fix it.

I have had the same problem with my the same dishwasher. The manual says that "the dishwasher has malfunctioned. Call service to check heater element". I called service and they are saying that replacing the heater element and possibly the electronic panel may be required. Total cost (part + labor) = $350-400!! I am very very upset with Whirlpool right now.
