Dead Microwave Microwave went dead after using it to defrost. The lights and everything shut off and won't turn back on. 15 minutes after everything shut off we opened the microwave door to find the inside extremely hot.

If the control panel lights up intermittently, then you either have a loose connection somewhere near the panel, or a failing component on the circuit board itself.

The klystron or the hi voltage transformer are faulty. The klystron is the part that generates the microwaves. The transformer supplies the voltage to operate the klystron.

The main fuse may be intermittent, causing complete power failure, the other possibility is a defective door switch not operating properly, or loose plug in the power feed, I suggest a technician to take closer look at the system because this could prove tricky to find the culprit.

Wait an hour or so, it may come back on, there are thermostats inside, some of them are self-resetting, some are not. Good luck.

You have likely blown the thermal fuse, its a small silver 1/2" pointy wire on each end and secured by clamp and normally brass crimps to the wires.
usually attached around the fan or motor area.
