I'm new to Mindstorms NXT 2.0 and can't get the USB connection to work. When I hit Scan to find connection nothing happens. Reinstalled software, but didn't change anything.
Try:
Look in device manager, if you don't find nxt under an item called Lego Devices, but find under yellow questionmark, USB devices an unrecognized device, you have to update drivers. Go to mindstorms.lego.com/support//updates and download v 102 and fantom driver. right click the unknown device in device manager and choose update driver.

and i followed the instructions, and my problem was resolved. the instructions are a little different for the 2.0 version of mindstorms. they will tell you to install a program, and all will be well untill a certain point where the computer will tell you that it cant install it. just ignore it and click finish. hope this helps :)
The same thing happens to me but i think i have found a solution. open the nxt software (on Mac or PC), click on the nxt window (bottom right control panel top left button). while on that screen, you can then turn your nxt and it should appear. if not, while still on that screen, plug in a bluetooth device, turn on bluetooth for the nxt and click scan and it should come up
