Setting up Linksys Wireless Router for Satellite

I am trying to configure a Linksys Wireless Router (Model WRT54GS2 V1) for my ViaSat (SM2100) satellite internet. While all the software, router, & windows os says that there is an internet connection; whenever I attempt to go online I get an error message either saying I am not online or that my connection has been reset. How can I fix this?

can you connect directly fia the viaSat? describe your hardware setup. for clarification: you may show you're connected to the router but being connected to the router does not mean being online. (you may know that already but just in case)

In Windows, run "cmd". Type "ping google.com". If you can ping google.com, the problem is with the websites you are trying to surf. If you cannot ping google, there is a problem with your connection. This sounds like a used wireless router

You might need to configure it. See this: https://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=139668#H2

SOURCE: Belkin Wireless G Router causes loss of internet connection

Does your router have one LED lamp for each "wired" port?
If so, does unplugging the Ethernet-cable (the one that connects to your desktop PC) cause the lamp to go off?
Does reconnecting that cable cause the lamp to go on?

Also, on your desktop computer, there could be a lamp right beside where the Ethernet-cable connects into your computer.
Again, disconnect the cable, and reconnect the cable, to see if that lamp goes off/on.

Have you tried a different cable?

Do *NOT* connect your desktop computer to the 'WAN' port on the router -- connect it to any of the "LAN" ports.

SOURCE: Belkin 54 Wireless Internet Connection Problems

Hello,

If wireless adapter on the laptop is fairly old, you may need to update the drivers for the wireless adapter. Some older wireless adapters are not capable of properly communicating with WPA devices. Typically a driver update of the laptop resolves the issue. If not, try another wifi adapter and verify it is not the OS or laptop itself.

Good Luck.

SOURCE: trying to set up wireless router to satellite phone/internet

i've never worked with a 7740, but i've installed hundreds of hn7000's and hn9000's. the issue is usually that the router and modem are defaulting to the same ip address. if your router supports has a web-based config utility (as most do) try cat-5'ing to the router with your computer while the router is NOT connected to the modem. log into the router and set it's ip address to something OTHER THAN 192.168.0.1 (i use 192.168.1.1 for my customers) reboot the router and reconnect it to the modem. the ip conflict should now be resolved.

Wifi getting connected with new linksys

You need to call Linksys again for them to help you setup the other computer. For the none-working computer, you don't need to run the setup CD for the router. All you need to do is connect to wireless network like what you did on the working laptop.

I have satellite internet.I have a belkin router. It doesn't work on satellite. What kind of router do I need.I have a emachine with windows xp.I also have a hp with windows xp.I would like to get internet...

XP does not necessarily automatically configure for wireless. https://www.lifewire.com/automatic-wireless-network-connections-xp-818243

Currently, the only companies offering satellite internet are HughesNet and Viasat. Both providers lease modems with built-in Wi-Fi routers to their customers.

While you must use the modem issued by your satellite internet provider, you can use any router you choose. Using an alternate router might enhance your network's performance, but if you'd rather not mess with it, the modems you get with HughesNet or Viasat both come with built-in Wi-Fi routers.
