Tip & How-To about Heating & Cooling

Gas Boiler Condensing Best Features

Condensing boilers are the most efficient way to heat that there is today. The BTU’s that they wring out of the fuel put into them is the best of anything available today. Not only do they burn their fuel very well, they also have technologies built into them to help give then the highest efficiency possible on any given day.

Condensing gas boilers have been on the market for about twenty years now. The early boilers were noisy and very heavy. Today’s condensing boilers are not even remotely the same as their predecessors. There have been many improvements that make these boilers lighter, safer, and more reliable than ever.

Many of today’s condensing gas boilers are controlled by a computerized control that gives many options and features to customize your boiler to the type of system that it is being installed in. Not only does the control monitor the boiler, but it can be setup to control the whole heating system as well. This gives the added benefit of fewer controls and the saving of space. Circulator pumps, mixing controls, and injection pumps can all be controlled by the boiler control.

These technologies are things like sensors to make sure that they are running at the highest combustion efficiency possible or they will shut down. Outdoor reset controls will vary the water temperatures to make sure that the water temperature is only being heated as hot as is needed to make your house warm at any given outdoor temperature.
Sensors also monitor the supply and return water temperatures constantly to shut down the boiler if the boiler senses any unsafe conditions.
These boilers are so good that even if you fire the boiler before filling it with water, the boiler will shut off before it is damaged.

When looking at the boilers on the market today take into consideration all of the benefits of that the newer high efficiency boiler have to offer. High efficiency is really great, but there is so much more to them. The ease of installation because of the light weight of new condensing technology, the versatility of the controls that are incorporated into these boilers, and the outdoor reset technology that will save you fuel and make you much more comfortable.

worcester combi gas boiler 3.5 highflow is constantantly dripping water at the external flue position over flow pipe

water vapour is one the main products of combustion of gas. With a standard efficiency boiler, upon initial heat up when the flue is cold this vapour can condensate on the inner wall of the flue but should stop once the flue heats up, to stop this condense dripping back on to the heat exchanger the flue should be tilted towards the outlet and thus on initial heat up water can drip from the flue. with high efficiency (condensing) boilers, condensation will occur in the flue and secondary heat exchanger during normal operation, dispense of this condensate is accommodated for in the boiler and therefor the flue should be tilted towards the boiler, if not the flue will drip constantly.
