You should not need any tools to lift the guard/nose piece. The T5 nose piece cleary has engraved on it "Pull Up To Insert Staples". To remove old staples, use a pencil or similar rod to depress the hammer/striker above the staples while the nose is open.

  • Dave Dec 21, 2010

You can buy them on the internet. Do a google search for T5 staples and should get some sources. I bought a case a couple years ago so I wouldn't run out. They come in various lengths.

  • Janet dunkley Nov 20, 2019

    Blackwoods sell them

I have one of the old Bostitch T5 staplers. This thing is ancient. It belonged to my dad and hadn't been used in a while. It still works and still has staples in it. I couldn't figure out how to reload it. A search turned up this link, which is exactly what I needed. I might add that you have to pull back on that nose piece a bit before it will come up. I used a flat screwdriver to help me out a bit, as it was resistant, having not been used in so long. Hope this helps som eone else.

Melissa, you're a fox... "I might add that you have to pull back on that nose piece a bit before it will come up."

That is the pivotal instruction that only you seemed to understand. Some things just take a woman to explain.

I just picked one up at a garage sale. Looking at the gun with handle to the left. Pull out the thing that looks like a cross slightly and swing it around. Be careful, the staples shot out quick.

BTW. There is no where on the stapler that states 'load staples here'.

I have the same stapler. Thirty years ago I went to different hardware stores to try to find someone who could figure it out. Finally a very old man showed me how simple it was and I was amazed.(There is no "pull up to insert staples" engraving.) Just the other day my 28 year old son who had borrowed it and is always very good at figuring out things, related to me that he couldn't figure out how to open it when he had run out of staples. I happily showed him how. Now our problem is we don't have any more staples and I can't figure out what size to buy. Does anyone know?

I had the same problem - when I put my glasses on I looked at the end of the gun and read this inscription: "lift to insert staples". Guess what - it works! I did need a screww driver to encourage it to flip up though.

Thank you Sue, now I just need to get the damn thing to work.

Just solved this with my own T5. When you squeeze the handle and hold it down, you'll see a nut/bolt at the end opposite of the staple opening. Unscrew it and pull the cover off. It may take some effort, but it comes off. Now you can lift the depressor plate out without having to pry it up. In one motion, push the front piece back to get it off the tabs and then up to open. insert staples and reverse the process to reassemble.

Ignore this solution. Completely wrong. Sorry.

If it is stuck/stiking try lubrcating it. WD40 (or similer) will do it wonders.

How to remove staples from bostitch T5 model only to change type of staples

Lift the hinged guard on the front of the stapler and while open use a pencil or similar object to depress the striker (above the staples). This will release the spring catch and the staples will move forward. Use caution and catch the staples as they come out under spring pressure.
