I am assuming you are using a PC . If So .. You most likely need new new drivers . You can get all your needed drivers free here .https://www.iobit.com/en/driver-booster.... .
Scan your computer after download , and click update on each category of your system .When you get an activation ( Current or Pro ) Window ....click the Grey update button each time for each category .. That way you get them for free . After you complete all you drivers your good . I also recommend a good defragger . Here is one that is dependable and with no malware (https://www.glarysoft.com/disk-speedup/ ) .Use it daily

Connect your mp3 player to the usb on your computer, then open my computer, once that is open you should see something that says removable disk, click on that to open it, and your music should be in there. To download music onto the mp3 player, find the music you want and download it to your computer, then open the file on the computer that the music is on, and then open the file with your mp3 player and just drag and drop. Drag from the computer file and drop into the mp3 player file. hope this helps

I had the same problem and finally figured out that the music was going to the device, but it was not under the mp3 file. If you go to 'computer', then click on the drive you have it plugged into you can drag the files into the mp3 file.

MP3 Player not recognized as being connected to USB port

If you do not have the installation disk, Open my Computer with your mp3player plugged in, then look for your mp3players brand name. open this file and simply drag files in.

If you cannot get the computer to recognize it at all, look for your a driver on google e.g: iRiver driver.

Good luck, respond with more details if you can't figure it out.

Computer wont recognize sansa clip mp3 player

Reformat clip with disk utility after looking at it like an external disk. Do this by turning it off. Puting it in lock mode. Hold down middle button as you plug it in.

I am mad at my Clip as it did the same thing.

Screen shot here:
Sansa clip not recognized.

What you can try is to remove the software off your computer not the firmware the software that came with the mp3 player if you remove this then when you plug your mp3 player in it should give you message new device found then you could try installing the software again then it might be able to let you use the firmware update.
As you have tried the lead and also your usb port then you know that they are working fine.
Just try removing the software that came with the mp3 player then give it another try this way when you plug the mp3 player in the computer wont know what it is and tell you new device found.
If it dont say this then you know the mp3 player is to fault and not any of the software on your computer give this a try then get back to me ok.

Once software is removed when you plug it back in it will say new device found and it will come up under my computer as mass storage device if this happens then put the mp3 player into recovery mode then try running the firmware.
Let me know what happens ok

Cannot download songs

You should be able to recover the device by running the Recovery Tool from the SanDisk website. Make sure you select "format" when prompted. http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00.12.exe You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool. - Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds) - Slide the hold switch into "hold" position. - Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer. Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted. Best of Luck.
