I got my watch repaired...at an auth service station...450 bucks n works all fine....they did not tell me the reason behind it...
My watch had the same problem and i could never figure out what it was so i just lived with it for a couple of years. then, just recently even when my watch was getting plenty of sun the battery would die in the evening and shut off at night. so i replaced the battery and evrything works great. even the light which leads me to believe the solar panel is just a gimmick. i have an old g-shock watch that i bought in 1989 and it still works and is on the origional battery. my gw 300 is about 5 years old and needed a battery. i guess 5 years on a battery is prety good but i would rather have it last for 19 years like my old one.
Where to start? First of all your solar watch has a rechargeable battery and should be changed with a new rechargeable. A regular battery may work for a time but may also destroy the watch if decides to burst from being charged when it should not be. Your old battery lasted a long time but not 19 years. The shelf life, in other words the life of a battery that is still in the package is 9 years. It lasted long enough you don't remember when you changed it and that is a good thing. Batteries don't last 19 years however. 5 years is a reasonable time to expect a battery in a watch to last. There are watches that the battery only lasts 1 year. The Bulova tuning fork watches for example.
