I m going to guess at this . the problem is that the fill tube to the ice maker keeps iceing . and thus not water gets into the tray . .. to stop this from recurring/ then remove the tube inside the freezer. and cut a **** in the top about 1/8 in wide and 3 to 4 in long ..( make it a trough instead of a tube . this should stop the problem . whirl/ kenmore sell this replacement part if you want to buy it .. mm hope this will give you peace of mind . mm ( feed back pls .)
Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. I understand the situation you are in at the moment however in your whole question you did not mention what is the exact issue you are facing with your 1996 Kenmore model # 9751714. Kindly make sure to elaborate your issue for a proper solution. Please revert with the exact nature of problem you have with your side by side refrigerator.

I added my comment and questions to an ongoing discussion of the following problem: the water drain in the freezer compartment of my home refrigerator freezes up and prevents water drainage off the evaporator (?) - or whatever the component with the metal fins in the back of my freezer (behind the inner wall) is called. The drain freezes up, then sheet ice begins to form in the freezer compartment, under the flooring - and ultimately in the refrigerator itself, on the shelves ansd in the vegetable drawers.
As I indicated, I have resolved the problem three times now, which motivates me to find the root cause of repeated incidents of this problem.
