No picture on lcd & view finder

I CANNOT GET A PICTURE ON THE LCD SCREEN OR THE VIEWFINDER IN RECORD MODE. THE SOUND IS THERE BUT ONLY BLACK SCREEN. WHEN IN PLAYBACK MODE EVERYTHING IS FINE

I also have the sound recording but a black screen, the link provided advises that no article is available - is this for US customers only - I am based in the UK ?

Similar problem. Four year old camera has been unused for 2-3 months in drawer. Was OK, but now gives very hazy LCD screen and viewfinder. Memory sticks show up normally on LCD screen. All menus seem to work OK and all settings are unchanged from previous.
Wasn't there a run of dodgy sensors re-called by several manufacturers not so long ago?

This camera and several like it have had problems with the CCD imager failing which causes this symptom. Please follow this link and send your camera in to the Sony Laredo facility for a free, one time repair.
Sony is well aware of this issue.

some camera will inactive the electronic view finder if you shot through the lcd monitor, try to find out in the manual book about shooting trough view finder.

The problem i m having with my camcorder is when i want to record film screen goes blank but i can watch my previous recorded videos

Look in the view finder when recording instead of the screen. if you see the image there then the unit is probably set to look through there. Many of the new units dont' have a full view finder to lens item they actually have a small lcd screen inside the view finder. Check your options for recording.

Also if the view finder is tilted you need to close that before usign the lcd.

The image will not appear simultaneously on the LCD

monitor and the viewfinder. It will appear in the

viewfinder when the LCD monitor is in the lock position,

and it will appear on the LCD monitor when fully
extended.

Viewfinder and LCD screen only show black and record black

If camcorder shows old recorded tapes picture with correct colors in LCD but does not show live view in camera mode to record new movie then its ccd imager chip failure.
And if camcoder shows live view and old recorded tapes in its eye piece view finder but does not show any thing in LCD the its problem of broekn/ cracked flexible wire between lcd board and main board of camcorder.

No image displays on screen or in view finder. Lense cap is open.

Try the following link if no picture or a black screen appears in the viewfinder or LCD when attempting to record.
