JVM1650SH01 Will cook for 3 to 7 seconds and then shut off. took it to repair shop, they ran many cook cycles and could not get it to fail. Took it home, ran about 10 times perfectly, and then remounted above oven, original problem immediately. Checked elect ckt and even rewired circuit so I know power at receptacle is good. Any answers? Thanx

    display goes blank.then comes back on instantly.may work a couple times and then out again.

    Mine cooks for about 3 seconds, then shuts off. It is steadily getting worse. I used to put in the time and date and after 5 or so tries it would work. Today, it will not work at all. Also, it doesn't cook right any more. I had to press the popcorn button 3 times last night and it still did not come close to cooking all the kernels. The last several times I made potatoes, they didn't fully cook. In the past week, I have read many, many bad reviews about GE microwaves. Their customer service is lousy, too. I paid a lot of money for what I thought was a quality product. I will never buy GE again.

Your problem most likely is in your door aligment there are 2 arms that need to close some door interlock switches inside the unit next time press in on the door hold it and try to start or push down on the door after it is closed and try to start it

See if this describes what's happening:
  • Put in time, push start and unit runs for 2 seconds, relay clicks, unit goes off. Cook time on display goes off and clock time comes back. Bad upper interlock switch and charred connector

Otherwise, if the digital programmer circuit / controller does not get a feedback signal from the inverter for a period of 3 seconds, the controller will stop the cook cycle.

That may be a loose connection in the wiring between the inverter, magnetron, and/or control board, or maybe one of those components has failed.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced in inverters, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

Shuts off after approx 5 - 7 sec. some smoke
If it stops after 7 seconds, it has a problem with the inverter.

If the digital programmer circuit / controller does not get a feedback signal from the inverter for a period of 3 seconds, the controller will stop the cook cycle.

It may be a loose connection in the wiring between the inverter, magnetron, and/or control board, or maybe one of those components has failed.

It could possibly be as simple as a loose connection in that area. The repair shop your friend used may not have been Panasonic-authorized.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

Microwave shuts off after 2-5seconds
The problem is most likely the magtube, it takes aprox 3 sec for the tube to energize and then it kills the microwave. If you drop the control panel away and start the microwave 90% of the time it will cook fine.

This is an inverter-driven model, and this is one way the inverter fails. Often it will tick, too, but the cooling fan may be too loud to hear ticking. If you haven't had smoke, then it may not yet catastrophic. I would bet that a thorough resoldering would take care of it. A good technician can troubleshoot and repair this, as needed, but often they will just replace the inverter. Sometimes that's actually cheaper. Troubleshooting an inverter is way too much for someone without good solid technical experience. I would call a shop and ask for an estimate to replace the inverter. Good luck.
