Installed a new 3/4 hp Polaris pool sweep pump. The pump will only run for about 3 seconds and shuts off. I can hear the internal circuit breaker reset after 1 to 2 minutes.
Those pumps are dual voltage...Are you certain you connected it correctly for the voltage present? If the motor is set up for 230V (as it usually is when purchased new) and you only feed it 115 volts it will heat up and then act as you are describing. The side of the motor will have a diagram for how to reconnect the motor if necessary.
If connected correctly you would have a voltage issue in the line to the pump (unlikely). Check the voltage present at the motor terminals under load and look for a drop of more than 10%. If this is the case you will likely need an electrician.
Like I said though, it is usually because of wrong voltage setup for the problem you describe.
Check your voltage and be sure it matches the way the motor is wired. You will find a scematic for this on top or on the side of the new motor, with a diagram on how to rewire it if nessary. If this is not the problem then it is in the motor and should be returned for a new one.
