I have deleted all files, but camera says Hard Disk Full

I moved files to a hard drive, and deleted them from the camera drive using the icons on my MAC OS X, just moving the video file icons to the trash on the computer screen. Now the camera says "No Video Files" when I access it on the screen, but when I turn it on to record, it says "Video Files Full" and will not record.
I have used Reset, but that doesn't help. How can i reset the camera memory?  Thanks!

On page 39 of the instruction manual it tells you how to format both the hard drive or the SD card. If you do not have a copy of the manual here is the link:

http://books.jvcservice.com/booklist.asp?Model=GZ-MG21

click the "instruction manual which is the fourth choice...

also be sure any medium (HD, SD) is UNLOCKED when doing this. If you do not weant to completely format see page 40.

And for your comfort, a Mac does not convert anything on the camera. But for the future, don't drag and drop into the trash bin, use delete on the camera. This is the same problem I've seen w/others but calling Apple-who blames it on the PC format-who blames it on the Mac-and both blame it on JVC, gets you nowhere. This is very typical when multiple companies are involved.

file system << sorry for the typing error

usually camers are fat32 partitioned , mac must have changed the boot patrern to that of the mach hence your camcorder might not be able to write to it, just format it and that should solve your problem..

  • Anonymous Jan 24, 2008

in the menu or setup of your camcorder there should be an option to format it..

The icon for my samsung g3 station 1.5TB hard disk does not appear, it used to show the black square with a leaf, now it shows that default unknown windows icon...i also had trouble copying some stuff from...

I had the same problem. Searched for a G3 Station image on the web and I've created an icon (*.ico file) to replace the missing one. Unfortunately windows didn't replace the missing icon withe the one I made, but at least it changed to the defaut icon for hard drives... same the OS uses forall other drives... so I guess it's ok.
Probably the reason for the missing icon is cause we deleted or moved the native files that samsung ships with the product.
Good Luck!

I need to change my default Download driver to the D drive as my C drive is always full, I've tried to move some of the programs from the C drive to the D drive but it says that some of the files may not...

Try the disk cleanup in the disk properties (right click the disk icon).
You can really free up a lot of space by deleting temp files, memory dump files and all restore point but the last. The last thing you only want to do if your system is running stable of course.
Also make sure to defrag after disk cleanup to maximize the efficient use of the free space.

I need general info on using an external hard drive. My computer is full and I'm unsure if I should replace the computer or start moving thing to the external hard drive. Also, I keep getting a message...

The drive will be assigned a letter. Find it in my computer. You can right click on any file and select send to and send it to the external drive. Basically you now have a backup of that file. Now you can delete the origional off the main hard drive and just read the file from the external drive. As far as the icons right click and select find target. That will show you were the file is and you can delete it.

I've got a Compaq Presario PC with a 40 G hard drive. The drive is at 99% full. How can I move some files to a new laptop I have with a 320 Gig hard drive? Joe C.

Any images, pictures, movies, or other personal files can be burned to a CD or DVD which can then be transferred to your new laptop.  Upon successful transfer, you may then safely delete the files from the full hard drive on your Presario.  Since your hard drive is so full, you may need to move files in small pieces since space is required to "burn" data to CD's or DVD's.  You can perform a "Disk Cleanup" which will delete files in Recycle Bin and Temporary Internet files.  To do this, Right-click on the Hard Drive, Click on Properties and click on the Disk Cleanup button.

Deleting files does not free up disk space

Note that "deleted" items move from their location into the "Recycle Bin".

So, "empty" the Recycle Bin, in order to reclaim the space.

Or, when deleting:
1. click ONCE to select a file/folder to be deleted
2. hold the SHIFT key down
3. click the DELETE key
4. release the SHIFT key

This will "permanently" delete the file/folder, immediately freeing-up the disk-space.

Drive C, full

Save all your files, your disk is risking to collapse at any time.
You cannot efficently run Vista on a 10 GB hard disk.
Minim efficient size it will be 40 GB or so.

Delete as many useless files as you can, use the hard drive cleaning tool that you find under all programs/accessories/system tools.

To save your file you can use the backup option in control panel, and save all files to an external USB stick or external hard drive or, do not use CD RW because the disk is full and there will be no space for disk image on hard drive.

If you want to keep using Vista I suggest replacing the hard drive for a bigger one.

Error Message

If you want to check hard drive space, open my computer and select the details view. OR right click on the drive icon and pick 'properties'

Freeing up space can be tricky. Use the disk cleanup utility first.
Start/Run/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup. The only caution is "don't compress files!!!"

Then it's a matter of deleting old documents [I back mine up to CD before deleting.] pictures, videos, etc. You can also add space by adding a hard drive and moving big files, like videos, to it.
