KitchenAid KCM2145JSS-1 built-in Doesn't Heat

I have a KitchenAid KCM2145JSS-1 built-in microwave manufactured in 2002. Today the microwave stopped heating and there is a slight burning smell coming from the unit. The panel still works correctly as does the turntable and light. Any thoughts as to the issue and potential cost to repair?

Thank you for the tip! One question. The "screws" in back are a hex design, but there is a pin coming out the middle so a regular tool doesn't seem to work. Is there a specialty tool for this?

Everything working is a real good sign. Most likely all thats wrong with your unit is a blown fuse. Go to http://www.partselect.com/MultiModels.aspx?ModelNum=kcms145j&SearchTerm=fuse&RefineSearch=0 and you will find the fuse. It's behind the touch pad with most all the other workings. Very easy to replace and cost only $11.76. It looks like an old round glass car fuse but it's made just for micro waves. It's most likely a 20 amp fuse. To get to it, take all the screws out from the back that hols the case on. once you have removed the case you will be able to locate the fuse. Good luck.

My daughter had a builtin oven installed and they removed her microwave that was above but separate from oven. They replaced it and now it doesn’t heat. Turns on but I heat. The guyscameba k today and said...

have it inspectied my a real company . if it was wired wrong, such as the oven was 220 volts and the microwave was 110 volt they tried to split the 220 down to 110 and wired it wrong. my question is was there a oven there before, if not did they run new wires for that oven . 220 volt needs 4 wires to run it , to be right. It sounds like 220 was put to the microwave.

My Kenmore Built-in microwave doesn't heat and the turn table doesn't turn. Model 911-47812200

It is good that the microwave does not work all together. It might be an interlock button or even a relay connection burn on the main mother circuit board.

Need a qualified technician. The service manual will be like $20-50.

Have a kitchenaid microwave KHMS2040WSS brand new. Is there a way to set the popcorn sensor for a smaller bag? Right now it is set for 3.5oz and burns all the popcorn.

I have never seen a microwave that doesn't burn popcorn if you use the "popcorn" button. Why the manufacturers keep putting them on I'll never understand. There's nothing you can do change the presets on an oven since they are built into the controller. Instead of relying on the oven, you should follw the directions on the bag. These tell you to use high power, stay by the oven and stop the cooking when the time between pops drops to 1 or 2 seconds. Stored heat will continue to pop kernels for a bit, and you won't cremate your popcorn. You'll also avoid the possibility of the bag catching fire and damaging the oven, which I have seen several times. Finally, don't expect 100% of the kernels to pop. There wil always be a few duds, and extending the cooking time just results in burned popcorn.

Overheating bottom Kenmore 66560652000

Hi,

I would suspect that when the microwave oven was on the table the vent or air openings were restricted by the table. Without free flowing air the control and other components could build up heat. It is doubtful that you built up enough heat to damage anything as this unit has more than one over temperature safety devices built into it.

That being said, the excess heat could weaken something internally especially on the control that would cause it to fail sooner than later in life.

My advice would be to leave it unplugged until it is mounted back on the wall per the instructions and use it then as normal. If it fails in the next year or so replace it at that time.

Microwave makes a very loud sound when on like it is going to blow up. What could be causing this? It is a kitchenaid built in.

This is usually a symptom of a magnetron that is failing. I would recommend stop using it. A replacement magnetron costs about $163 at searspartsdirect.com. The part number is 8205791. This was the cheapest web source I could find it.

Microwave stopping working

check the fuse on the microwave. if its busted, something shorted out in the oven that tripps off your breaker. it could be your inverter.
