Our GE sss25kfmdww "freezes up" and then stops refrigerating

The refrigerator side is at present working properly , but slowly slowly, it will also loose its cooling.This will happen because, freezer side is the side which cools first, then the refrigerator side ( also called as fridge side)., gets cooled.If freezer side is not cooling / freezing properly then fridge side will also loose its cooling ability.------------ And later on both section will loose its cooling.----------- As per the present situation, it indicates problem with compressor or problem with freezer side door not closing properly.---------- Or the temperature in freezer section is not set to proper cooling/ freezing.--------- So first inspect temperature, is it set right? If ok, then check the freezer door , is it properly closed? If ok, then its compressor problem.? Same thing with our GE Eterna Series - off and on for the last two weeks. Took back panel off, looked around, vacuumed dust build up off of the fan blades, etc.; everything worked fine for five good days. Then frig went out stopped cooling. Off and on for the last week. Unplugging it works for a day then back to not freezing and or colling.

Hi, they have changed lots of parts, were they defected, did they tested parts for faults or they just change parts, because it's available, there's always a reason why a certain part, go bad. so far you change most of parts in ref. check refrigerant (gas, freon) pressure, check compressor, for faulty suction and high side valve, it's possible your compressor loosing efficiency. or say if compressor normally pump 50 psi. now it's pumping 40 psi. is the refrigeration cycle balance ? is there restriction in your ref. system? is compressor running long enough? plug on ref. let it run for 1hr, listen to compressor for any clicking sound, fans and everything else could be working, be compressor not, compressor could be short cycling (not working long enough) also check voltage in receptacle(outlet) with digital multi-tester, get accurate voltage reading, let me know, could also be a faulty circuit breaker in house (building) not your ref. let me know, system could have very slow refrigerant leak, you could have a very small (slow) gas leak, that's why your refrigerator get hot first, then your freezer, there's a condensate line (loop) that passes through, ref body, close to doors to prevent door gasket from freezing, after few years sometimes develope leaks, cause by rusting. it's very possible there could be small leak in your system. let me know what happened.good luck.

you might have a defrost problem, timer,heater or bimetal when the coils freez up they dont cool enough .

Is the compressor coming on at all? If not a capacitor may be bad .

The black thing is the compressor. It should run warm but not hot. This usually indicates it's time to clean the condenser coils under the refrigerator. Try using a long soft brush and your vacuum cleaner.

Check the back wall of the freezer for ice buildup.
If yes, a defrost parts problem.
Check the freezer fan. Is it running?
If no, replace the freezer fan.
Check the condenser fan at the compressor. Is it running?
If no, is compressor hot?
If compressor is hot replace condenser fan motor.
If compressor is not hot.
Replace the compressor start relay.

Although this machine is supposed to be frost-free (i.e. automatic defrost), there was a build up of frost. We manually defrosted the machine, then restarted it - the noise has stopped and the freezer and fridge are now working. However, this may be a temporary solution.

number one,is the freezer fan working?2,is there frost forming on the back wall of freezer?let me know more-mike

could be due to ice build up jamming the fan. take back panel off and check for ice. if ice present the defrost system has failed. also on some models, the fan stops when door is opened. check door switch is operating
