Regular cycle no longer cleans well

Our DU930PWP dishwasher (which was in our house when we moved in, last year) no longer cleans dishes well on the Regular cycle. We have to use the Heavy cycle. Even that regularly leaves dishes with stuck-on food bits. Silverware has the worst time - about 30% comes out of the basket with food still on it.

Possibly unrelated, but the dishes on the top shelf often have pools of nasty water still in them after a full cycle.

We are rinsing dishes before they go into the dishwasher. There is not large amounts of food on the dishes - those gets put in the garbage. Sometimes there are pieces of food remaining in the washer, and sometimes there is a baked-on film of unwashed food. We don't use the heated dry setting.

The pools of nasty water form on the bottoms of the glasses/bowls (as they are upside down in the top rack).

We stack the washer as best we can, given that the bottom shelf is almost too short for most of our plates. We have previous dishwasher usage experience, so we know how to stack it.

The big question here is "Is this a crappy dishwasher, to be replaced? Or is it an okay dishwasher that's somehow not working at its best?"

    Thanks!

The manual was not present when we bought the house. We have used other dishwashers before, so we have the general idea of how to stack one.

Dishes/glasses/etc are scraped if there is food on them, rinsed if the washer isn't going to be run immediately.

Often what's on the dishes post-wash isn't large pieces, but a "film" of the food that was there. Sometimes it is visible pieces, though.

The pools that form are on the bottoms of the upside-down cups and bowls in the top shelf. I'm not sure how a glass bottom will drain if it is standing at a 90 degree angle. Our top shelf doesn't easily allow the glasses to put set at an angle.

What I'm mostly wondering is whether we have a lousy washer that doesn't wash/rinse well, or whether we have a decent washer that needs repair.

    Thanks!

Are you loading the dishwasher as described in the Owner Manual? Is food allowed to dry on the plates and utensils before the dishwasher is started? Are there large accumulations of food left on the dishes and silverware? Anytime water has pooled in items placed in a dishwasher, it's because the items were not properly placed in the dishwasher so that they may drain. Not all items can be placed in a dishwasher so that they can drain. You need to orient anything put in the dishwasher in it's best position so that it can drain.

Thanks for the clarification (we get a lot of people on here that don't know how to really use a dishwasher).

Sounds to me like the DW may need a through going over.

Confirm the make and model of the DW so I can see how it's built. I am suspect that with all the food particles and film you mention, that the spray heads are clogged in the spray bars, and, check that the drain hose is not kinked, and it's attachment into the garbage disposal is clear. I've had these clog before, limiting the ability of the DW to get rid of the dirty water.

Testimonial: "Thanks! I'll try these and check back in after the holidays."

I found exploded views, and I might add, my daughter and son-in-law have one of these and it does a pretty good job of cleaning dishes.

Take the baskets out, take the spray bars out and make sure they are clean of foodstuffs. Remove the bottom filter assembly (larger round plastic ring) and look for accumulated foodstuffs.

And again, check for a kinked drain hose and clogged or partially clogged disposal connection, as well as sink drain capability. (My DW recently began having a similar problem, combined with taking forever to complete the cycle because it couldn't drain, and I found the drain was partially clogged.

Let me know what you find.

Dishes not coming out clean

Hello

There are some things you can try, however, if your Maytag dishwasher is not getting your dishes as clean as you would like. Maytag recommends several processes for fixing this issue with your dishwasher.

Do not run your Maytag dishwasher while hot water is being used in other parts of your home, such as washing clothes or showering. Hot water is needed for your Maytag dishwasher to properly clean dishes.

Run water in the sink in your kitchen until it gets very hot. Then, turn on your Maytag dishwasher. This will ensure that the water cleaning your dishes is the hottest possible temperature.

Clean your Maytag dishwasher to improve the cleaning results for dishes. Run your dishwasher on a short wash cycle and wait for it to fill up with water. Stop the cycle and add about 1/3 of a cup of rust remover to the dishwasher and finish the cycle. Run your Maytag dishwasher through one normal cycle with regular detergent to finish the cleaning process.

Check your detergent. Old detergent or those that have been exposed to moisture can be clumpy. This detergent will not clean your dishes as well when loaded into your Maytag dishwasher. Purchase fresh detergent.

Use extra detergent when washing dishes that have a lot of built-up grease or food particles. The extra amount of detergent is needed to get your dishes clean. Choose a long cleaning cycle to clean these dishes.

Fill your Maytag dishwasher properly. Dishes should not be stacked on top of each other or excessively crammed into your dishwasher. This will keep the dishwasher from adequately cleaning all areas of your dishes and from rinsing them thoroughly.

Dishwasher not heating water already replaced in line heater element no change

Hello

Possible causes;

Incoming Water; Most manufacturers recommend that the water coming into your dishwasher be at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit. If the water is too cold, then your dishes don't clean properly. Or the dishwasher must run longer to heat up the water. Test the water temperature by running the hot water on your faucet for about 2 minutes or until it gets really hot. Place a waterproof thermometer under the water. If the water is too cold, increase the water temperature setting on your water heater.

Thermostat; The thermostat is responsible for regulating the water and drying cycle temperature. If this thermostat isn't working, the heating element at the base of the dishwasher tub may not come on. Test this element by selecting the hottest temperature setting. Run the dishwasher on the shortest cycle. Let the dishwasher run for a few minutes, and open it up. If the dishwasher water is not hot or the drying cycle isn't starting, order a new thermostat from a parts dealer since this component is difficult to fix.

Heating Element/Drying Fan; The heating element heats up the water and air. Access this element by removing the bottom rack. It looks like a long black rod. If any part of this component is broken or corroded, you must order a new one. You usually cannot fix this element. The drying fan is located in the main housing of the dishwasher, and it blows air around your dishes to dry them. Check this part by disconnecting the dishwasher from the power supply and opening up the housing. Examine the fan, and see if any dirt or debris is preventing it from moving. Clean it. If the fan won't turn at all or if the motor is burnt out, order a new fan since it's difficult to repair this part.

If your dishwasher isn't drying your dishes properly, see if you have selected a heated drying cycle. An air drying cycle doesn't completely dry your dishes. Never overload the dishwasher, as this prevents heat from circulating around your dishes, keeping them from drying properly. Plastic and Teflon

My whirpool dishwasher model du930pwps2 stopped working

sounds like the fuse on the control blew. you can replace the fuse for around $20 or you can cut and splice the wires for free. If that doesnt work then you may have a loose conection in your junction box under the dishwasher.

Soap dipenser

Try this... Wipe out the soap dish with white vinegar and a soft cloth.. make sure you get everything off the edges of the door and look for any nicks, blemishes or deformation of the dispenser door to make sure it is not mechanically binding up when it is cycled open. If Ok.. then.. clean your drain filter.. then.. start a wash cycle using the hottest setting ( without any dishes) .. and after about 10 minutes or so.. stop the process and open the door and add in 2 cups of white vinegar.. Let it complete the wash cycle.. When complete..try running a dishless cycle on any setting with detergent ( use about 1/3 less than you usually use) and see if that dispense adequately. If that works, then the next time you load the washer. make sure you don't have anything up against or limiting the door from opening. Hope this helps..
