I'm not convinced that the LCD itself is bad, from what is reported. The LCD display has a ribbon connector that connects to the main circuit board, and can come slightly loose. When it does, the camera has to be disassembled to disconnect and reconnect the connector. There is no design flaw that I know or have heard of concerning this camera. This happens with all brands of digital cameras at times, not just the Coolpix. It doesn't cost anything to disconnect and reconnect the ribbon connector, so I would try that first, then replace it if does turn out to be bad. There are videos on YouTube that show how to reseat the connector. Good luck, and hope this helps.

Sorry, but there is no DIY fix for the lens problem, and any attempts at homebrew repair will likely worsen the problem. The camera needs professional repair, so I suggest that you take it to a camera shop (not the camera department at a large store) or contact Nikon customer service via the Nikon.com web site. Be sure to get a firm price before committing to repairs -- the cost to fix it may be close to the price of a new camera, and repairs typically only carry a 30-day warranty.

I got a same problem with different mode.

I planed to send it back to manufacturer, before packing it, I just knocked the back of camera with my palm in switch ON mode... the lens just retracted into normal position...

It can work for you to......

I am not an expert, it is just my experience I am sharing here.
If Lens struck with Lens Error!! on the screen, charge the batteries, switch on the camera, when the lens tries to move, feel free to knock a bit hard at the back of the camera with ur palm...... you cant hurt it any more than it already is., it might help the misplaced gears to aline back in if it is a minor problem.
