Win xp machine, reinstalling the software, but the installation and detection of usb printer won't finish.
Before connecting the printer to USB port, install software which is came along with the printer. Inbetween it will ask you to connect the printer for detection and install the respective drivers for that printer.
1. Scan your computer for Spyware, Rootkits, Viruses
2. Before proceeding with a fresh install, uninstall any printer components that came with earlier attempts to install. That is, Start --> Printers & Faxes ---> Select the printer to uninstall and press the Delete (or Del) key.
3. Go to the Control Panel and uninstall any client program that manages the printer. Restart the PC with NO printer connected. Once the PC has rebooted, connect the printer to the USB port and power it up. Windows should autodetect it.
4. Reinstall the printer from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) disk.
