Hi, I have a yamaha rx-v465 av receiver and have connected it to a samsung series 6000 LED tv with a HDMI cable. When i use my DVD (connected to av 5) I get sound out of the speakers but the tv states that it can not find a signal (the tv does recognize HDMI connection). If i connect the dvd directly to the tv (3-plug cables) it works fine. Any ideas. Thanks, Greg

Check the settings on receiver in the SETUP menu / HDMI / Audio. Here you can choose Amp (sound goes from the speakers connected to receiver), TV (receiver is muted and sound is routed via HDMI to TV) and Amp+TV (sound goes from speakers and also to TV). Also check in OPTION menu / Signal Info that receiver is receiving sound in recognized format.
RX-V465 has auto-sync feature over HDMI. So if you have your DVD and TV connected over HDMI, receiver will communicate with your TV and set the delay automatically based on TV processing speed. You can turn auto-sync on in Setup menu / Sound Setup / Lipsync / HDMI Auto. Or if that doesn't work for you, you can set a value in milliseconds manually in the same submenu.
Hi, unfortunately this is not possible on RX-V465. HDMI can have sound only from HDMI. All A/V inputs are paired, except for analog Audio 1-2, to which you can assign any of the analog video AV1-6.
But you can connect the video via HDMI directly to your TV and connect only audio to receiver via optical AV1 or AV4.
You should not lose any picture quality from the DVD player. I am currently having the similar setup with PS3 as the Blu-ray DVD player with HDMI and a Samsung DVD as regular player with component cable to a Samsung LCD TV. Remember the quality on Blu-ray is better than normal DVD so don't expect more than what it is.
For what do you need receiver if you don't want to use its speakers? As far as I know this is only possible for HDMI connections (when you have your DVD player connected to HDMI-in of receiver, and HDMI-out to the TV). Go to Setup menu / Func. setup / HDMI / Audio. You can choose there if audio from HDMI should be output on receiver's speakers, or TV speakers, or both.
Unfortunately the RX-V463's HDMI output is version 1.2 or 1.1. In simple terms, It is useless! Not to blame yamaha or any other manufacturer but the firmware was riddled with problems; just like what you describe. There is no fix for your model for the video issue, however, the optical issue is solveable. The receiver should play 5.1- 6.1 7channel stereo etc. in optical or coaxial mode. If you have the ability to switch to coaxial, do so. it's sound is warmer anyway. Secondly, check your settings thru the receivers "GUI" or "Menu" in Manual setup for audio. Thirdly, check your samsungs "Native" resolution, chances are it will only do 720p or 1080i and; if your TV is 50" or smaller, the human eye cannot see the difference between 720p and 1080p anyway, provided you use good cables. I am a professional in the industry and still avoid using HDMI whenever possible!
Just make sure you set your BluRay and TV to the same resolution. If your choices are 720p or 1080i use 720p it's cleaner 1080i is equal to 540p, which is just a hair over std DVD video. If you still have problems and need more help, post a comment and I will help some more. Hope this helps
I have the same receiver... You can try pressing the Option button and choosing Signal Info to see what audio signal the receiver sees and if that changes over time. Maybe the cable box is not outputting according to specifications... TV can live with that, but receiver maybe can't. You can also try to connect the cable box via SPDIF cable (optical or coax) to see if it helps or not.
Does it work via component or in a different HDMI port? If it does it sounds like either a bad HDMI input on the tv or a bad HDMI output on the receiver.
I would also verify that the receiver is 100% compliant with the HDMI standard as not all devices are.
