Can't get a tv signal through new Samsung HPT4264 Plasma TV. I've tried various outputs from the D11 DTV Satellite box and TV inputs but nothing works. The S. box has coax coming and going and the tv has 2 inputs for coax (air & cable) but neither works. The manual says various other types of connections will work but does not mention coax. I've contacted customer support from DTV and Samsung. Got nothing but finger pointing. My question is whether this new tv will work on old fashioned coax cable or not. My satellite box is not HD. If not, why are the coax inputs on the back of the tv? Am I not doing something right? My dvd/vcr player works fine on the S-Video output and tv input for it. Just can't get a tv signal from the cable box.

There sould not have been sparks. Check the following: Using a voltmeter check between the cable itself and ground. There should not be any reading (anything less than .1V is normal). Check again between the inner hole of the RF connector and the outside part. Again there should be less than .1V. If you read any voltage at the RF connector, the TV is faulty and should be exchanged. If you read voltage at the cable, have teh cable company check again.

Ive got 3 samsung tv's (lcd, plasma, DLP) and I use HDMI cables on all of them. Its the only way to get the full potential out of the tv. When you use the red/white/yellow RCA cables the signal is anolog aka "old technology". Component cables are good but HDMI is the best. HDMI is a digital signal and thats what all the components that go with the tv should be run on. If your dvd player does not have an HDMI output I would suggest getting one that has that output. As for the cable box most require you to upgrade to digital cable in order to get one with an HDMI output. If you dont want to spend the money on new components and run what you have now the picture will stay mediocre at best. Good luck hope this helped
