Kenmore dryer stopped working, start button does nothing

The dryer was working fine then in the middle of a load it stopped working. I pressed the start button and it worked for about 10 seconds. Now when you push the start button there is nothing. Power is fine. I replaced the start button but still the same. Timer is counting down fine. The drum moves fine. The starter must trip a relay. Where is the relay? The orange wires run down the back and the schematic diagram doesn't have colors on the wires.

note sure how the CYE4000 ended up in my post. Mine IS a Kenmore - model #C1108564290.

  • wetwrinkled Jan 21, 2008

model # is correct off the tag inside the door. Dryer is Sears Canada Inc. About 12 years old.

  • wetwrinkled Jan 22, 2008

Found the problem. It was the thermal fuse. See "My dryer is not doing anything" and the solution posted by Catriver.

My Kenmore 400 series dryer did this recently. Stopped running in the middle of a timed dry. Would not re start. I looked at this web site and got the idea it might be the thermal fuse. Had my husband take the thermal fuse out (VERY EASY) and had it tested. IT WAS BAD. Replaced the thermal fuse for $20.00 and ta da it is working again.

I have a Kenmore Elite HE4 smartheat quiet pak 9 that has power but will not start.

Sounds like the belt that turns the drum could be broken. I'd check that first.

I have a Kenmore 400 series top loading electric dryer that just stopped working right in the middle of a load of clothes. It was working just fine and then it just stopped. Now it will not turn on at...

Hi there....this sounds to be like you blew the breaker. Go to your breaker panel in your house and search out the fuse for the dryer. This will be a double 110 volt breaker. You need to reset both sides to be sure. It is easily locatable as they almost always have the items listed on the inside of the door of the panel. If this works for you great. Please try to remember to click on the yes box on your way out ...thank you and good luck.

Our dryer stopped working in the middle of a load. Now when I press the start button the timer does nothing but click. I am not sure but I thought it might be the push start button was faulty. Any ideas?

Hi,
  • Check to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it plugged in? If you plug something else into the outlet, does it work? If not, check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker.

  • If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch.

  • Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, burns and the connection breaks. In this has happened to your dryer, you need to replace the power cord and the terminal block inside the dryer to which the wire is attached.
Hope this will fix your problem for sure.

My Dryer just stopped working in the missle of a

with your door open have some one try and turn the dryer on while you hold the button in and turn the drum by hand to get it started.
if it starts the your motor may just have lint build up around it causing the contacts to be dirty.
there is a couple of other things that might have gone wrong the main control board has gone bad or the door switch, motor has gone out

  • Here is what happened.
  • Stopped running mid-cycle.
  • Dryer set idle for about two hours Then I pushed start butten again.
  • It ran fine to finish load.
  • Next load it was totall dead and silent and remains that way.
  • The vent hose was unobstructed.

Kenmore 90 plus series dryer won't work

Sounds like the belt has broken. You could probably also use new drum support rollers. Check out this site which shows how to change a dryer belt:

It's not a difficult job if you're comfortable working with hand tools.

Dryer won't Start

the problem might be the start switch itself. if the switch is going bad it could have either a carbon buildup on the contacs preventing it from starting (unlikely) or the contacs are wearing out and it is more hit or miss if it will start. as time goes on the problem will get wose
