If the photos are removed from digital camera or SD card, please do not save more files on the device any more. Or, the photos might be overwritten by new data.
Then, please connect digital camera or SD card to Windows PC. Next, you can download a data recovery tool for restoring deleted photos. Hereof, the linked webpage is about undelete photo tutorial. You can check it for more details.

What sort of media? SD card? There are many undelete utilities and services out there. Pick a reputable source like cnet.
e.g. http://download.cnet.com/Undelete-SD-card/3000-2242_4-201454.html
Install software and card and run the undelete software.

I have taken photos on my camera and then when I go to download they are no longer there? Been using for a while so am sure am not accidently deleting them... Help!

I have had success with this... Download this camera image recovery program called asoftech photo recovery

You have to use a card reader either on your computer or an external USB card reader. Put the card in the card reader, open the recovery program, then select the drive where files are deleted, then press "Start" and wait for it to do it's magic.

Green key shows on screen, cannot delete that photo

The key means that the picture is locked so you can not erase by accident. You need to remove the key be for you can erase the pic. If you have the manual it will tell you how. if not get me the model of camera and I will get you a manual.

Empty Card

It appears that you have accidently formatted your card, this is one reason we should download all of our pictures after every session. I have done this twice, but of course my lost pictures weren't nearly important as yours but a loss is a loss, and I now transfer all my pictures to the computer after each photo session. Sorry about that!
