Targus CD/DVD does not show in directory

I just bought a Targus CD/DVD for my netbook. (model ADV01US) When the USB cable is plugged in, it runs but does not show up in the directory. I've tried it on 2 different laptops with no success. Suggestions?

Bought a Targus slimline usb dvd player to attack to my acer netbook. It will not play any dvd's. It keeps saying my disks may be corrupt. What do I do?

There is either a problem with your discs or the targus unit so first:
put in a disc and if it says that it's corrupt then take it out and try to play it in something else that you know works.
Then if it does play, it's the targus unit's fault. If it does not play then your discs are bad.

The targus dvd model number adv01us is plugged into the usb port on my laptop.. I put in a DVD, but I keep getting a message to insert a dvd.

make sure that the cd/dvd rom is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd including electrical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or
your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd rw then plug them back in or
you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
click start control panel administrive tools, computer management device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives if you see a yellow question mark? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall

How do i use the dvd-player? .

On your model it does not have a dvd/cd rom built in. You will need to buy a external dvd/cd drive and hook it up through your usb port. Go into your operating system, then plug in the cable into the usb port. Turn on the Dvd/Cd, and windows should pop up of a hardware detect. If disc if provide with the external dvd/cd drive, use that and install the driver from that cd, you should be good to go.

Targus External USB ADV01US not recognized by any PC, XP, Vista, or Win 7. Multiple USB Cables used. No power supply required by the drive, powered by PC.

Could be a disk problem of course. Make sure you try a desktop and not just laptops, they do not always provide enough power on the USB ports. Or try an external USB hub with a poer supply.

The drive is not registered with my machine after I connect it.

u dont have any specific drivers that came with the Targus dvd?
..mabe the generic driver is not exepted!
..or ur usb port is not configured properly!
...do u have usb 2.0!
...did u tried on other ports!
...try to force usb 1.1!
...last step: in bios, try to putt usb dvd , or usb , (or anything similar), to boot from, (make sure u have a proper disk inside the dvd.)
if it worked (and its not simple, u need to make many tries) , then its driver problem, and in xp pro, every thing can be fixed ;)

Bought a new computer and want to use usb 3g adapter on new computer. I think I need to install software, however there is no disk drive as it is a netbook

Dear johnls,
Try to copy the installation CD to a flashdisk the run the installation from flashdisk when you connect it via USB jack on your netbook.
Or try to connect the external Optic Drive (CD/DVD ROM), wait until the netbook complete the installation of your optic drive. Restart your netbook with external CD ROM connected via USB jack, then run the 3G installation from your External CD ROM.

GoodLuck!

Best regards,
