If your laptop meet the requirements of windows 7 it is good>>. it can run the windows 7>>> i will give you the system requirements of windows 7>>>>

  • Processor: 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor
  • Memory: 1 GB of system memory
  • Hard drive: 16 GB of available disk space

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:

  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

so if your below that,,it will run but slow system

install driver max, its a driver software and it has almost all the drives in the world, its free and if ur lucky, u can find ur driver

You will have to navigate this site; enter 'notebook', 'Aspire', and scroll to 5100; after that, you will have to choose 32 bit or 64 bit. That being said, Acer does not support Windows 7 yet-you can try the Vista drivers; more often than not they will work. One note-I cannot tell just from the info you supplied whether you have the Atheros or Broadcom chip-You should be able to determine that in Device Manager.

1. Go to Start, then to Run, and type in "SFC /SCANNOW" (without the quotes - and with a space between the SFC and the /SCANNOW).

2. Then press Enter.

Note : For VISTA & Windows 7, go to Start and type in the above information, then go to the top of the box and right click on SFC /SCANNOW and select "Run As Administrator"

Acer Aspire 5100 upgrade to Windows 7
Until ACER decide to produce the drivers to enable Win7 support there's nothing you can do.

Developing new drivers costs money, until they decide it is money well spent it won't be done.

The DVD ROM problem lies in the REGISTRY. I have the registry entries. I can email it to you. I have the same lappy running 7. It aint supported but that mean it don't work! :)

The best way to handle this is to completely reformat the drive again, to rid win 7 and the bad XP, and to then re-install XP from the DVD all anew. Any other way is just going to cause hassles trust me.

I'm trying to load windows 7 on acer 5100 and everything went well but it went back to bio.
Go to acer/global support and get the bios update for windows 7 because right now your bios are probably for VISTA:( Once you flash them reboot and you should be able to go straight into win7

My Acer aspire 5100
If you are able, when the pc is booting up keep pressing F8, this will take you to safe mode and not allow the graphics driver to run. When in the safe mode options, select either Last known good configuration or start windows in safe mode. Last known good configuration should find the last good system settings, when it reboots. Start windows in safe mode allows you to go into windows using the administartor account, and then you should select system restore and restore back to the day before or just before you updated the graphics driver.
