Hello,
The problem with those auto light panel`s is the device (photo-cell) responsible for sensing when to activate the light is common to fail. But before replacing it, follow the direction`s below to secure the ribbon connector to insure it is making a good connection.
Unfortunately the failed component is integrated into the outer trim and which can only be resolved by replacing the outer panel assembly called an ``escutcheon`` part # 61005386 and retail`s for around $120-$150, so I`d shop around.
It is easy to replace if need be, but as you can see not cheap. If you do change it, make sure you shut off the breaker before pulling the escutcheon/front panel off. If you look at the panel from the bottom, you should see a couple of slot`s just large enough to slide a small flat screwdriver behind to allow you to pry it off. From there you can lift it up and off, (careful not to scratch the freezer door) but you`ll need to unplug the ``ribbon connector`` from the panel/escutcheon. Reverse this when installing the new part and you should be fine.
Hope that helps. Good luck and thank`s for visiting fixya.

My Maytag escutcheon control works fine but two of the five push buttons are cracked. What can I use to replace these control key pad covers for Water and Cube? Thanks.
