The push button switch contacts stuck together. On a Kenmore in my home I was able to remove the push to start switch from the control panel, taking a digital picture first noting which wires went where, and carefully take the push button switch apart (it only had snap together type assembly tabs-no glue). Taking the switch apart carefully and observing how things were aligned as I slowly took it apart, I then un-stuck the contacts - burnished/filed them finely a bit - put it back together, tested it - and its been working fine since. The push button contacts that were stuck were well pitted so it might happen again. If it happens again soon, replace the switch. If it works fine for years, you saved the cost of a new switch and the dryer down time. My wife was very happy to have it back in operation so easily.
