Check the following:

  1. The first thing to check is to make sure that the sub woofer is connected to the proper connection on the back of the receiver. Please look on the Yamaha receiver and make sure that the sub woofer is connected to the Sub woofer Output jack and not the Sub woofer Multi-Channel Input jack.
  2. Check the LFE/Bass Output setting in the Set Menu of the receiver. Verify it is set to the Both option for best sub woofer performance.
  3. Disconnect the sub woofer cable from the back of the receiver. Once the cable is in your hand verify that the sub woofer is turned on, then tap on the end of the cable and see if you hear anything from the sub woofer. If it is working properly, you should hear a humming or thumping sound from the sub woofer. If you hear this sound then the sub woofer is working and the receivers’ sub woofer output will need to be checked by an authorized Yamaha service center.
  4. If no sound is heard then try replacing the sub woofer cable and repeat the test.
  5. If the sub woofer still does not omit any sound then the sub woofer would need to be tested by a service center.
This will help. Thanks, please keep updated. please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

Hi.

The sound for zone 2 has been set to fixed volume.

Check first unputs from zone Two, and check volume from input device.

Go to Zone 2 settings in Setup and change the volume setting to Zone 2.

Here is also a fix published by lmadden8952 , but I do not know if that work.

"Press "Amp" button (right side of remote - 1/3 way down) 2. Press "Menu" button (center of remote - 1/2 way down) 3. Press "TV VOL" button (green letters) until "Manual Setup" is displayed on receiver 4. Press "Enter" button (green letters) 5. Press "TV VOL" button (green letters) until "3 Option Menu" is displayed on receiver 6. Press "Enter" button (green letters) 7. Press "TV VOL" button (green letters) until "D Multi Zone" is displayed on receiver 8.Navigate"

Setting the RX-V861 remote control to operate Zone 2:

  1. Using a ballpoint pen or similar object and press the [CODE SET] button RX-V861 remote control. The[TRANSMIT INDICATOR]on the remote should flash twice.
  2. Using the [NUMERICAL KEY PAD] on the remote and key in 9992, the [TRANSMIT INDICATOR] should flash.
Assigning the receivers internal amp for Zone 2:
  1. Set the remote control selector to [AMP]. (Located to the right of the volume buttons on the Remote.).
  2. Press the [SET MENU]button on the remote control.
  3. Arrow down to Manual Setup and press the Enter button on the remote control.
  4. Arrow to the [SOUND MENU] option and press the [ENTER] button on the remote control.
  5. Arrow to Speaker Set and press the [ENTER] button on the remote control.
  6. Arrow to the EXTRA SP ASSIGN and select ZONE2
  7. Press the [RETURN] button on the remote control to exit out and return to the Manual Setup.
NOTES: There is an option for setting the Maximum Volume and Initial Volume in the Zone Set menu.
  • Max Volume: This is an optional feature but isrecommended to prevent the accidental change in volume levels thatcould damage the speakers and receiver.
  • Initial Volume: This is also a great feature that would seamlessly start the volume level for the second or third zone at the desired level.
We do not recommend using any Speaker Selector boxes to enable more than the recommended number of speakers per terminal.
Controlling Zone 2 using the RX-V861 remote control:
  1. If the Main Zone on the receiver is on, press the [POWER BUTTON]down and while holding that button down press the [PHONO]/[**] button on the remote. The [TRANSMIT INDICATOR] will light up.
  2. You will not be able to use the following buttons on the remote: (Pressing any other button will cause the remote to exit Zone 2 mode. [POWER], [STANDBY], [VOLUME], [MUTE] and the [INPUT SELECTOR] buttons [DVD], [CD], etc.)

    Also note:
Why can’t I adjust my volume of the Zone 2 pre-outs for my RX-V861?

When using the Zone 2 pre-outs of the RX-V861, the volume output level
of this receiver is fixed and cannot be adjusted separate of the volume
    control.
    Thank you,
    Lee

No volume from surround sound system on dtvcbl cable, dvd or cd modes with yamah rx-v861 powered on.?

Have you looked at the manual? How did it fare using the set up test tones? Did you assign the digital inputs?

The unnamed sources probably have manuals, too.

I have a Yamaha RX V665 and I am unable to change the volume

The volume keys should be working by default, but you may have volume punch through turned on (meaning the remote is sending signals for TV or CABLE volume function no matter what mode you are actually on). To unlock volume control for AUX mode, do the following:
1. Press and release AUX
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 993
4. Press and release VOL-
The remote should blink four times to confirm unlock.

No volume in Zone 2

Get the original Yamaha remote, go to Set menu, manual setup, speaker setup, and look for "extra speaker." it needs to be set to "zone 2." This is off the top of my head, so it should be pretty accurate. Get used to doing this, though, as this amplifier assignment to zone 2 is prone to resetting itself in those Yamahas.
