Hotpoint VTD00 Tumble dryer. Motor runs ok without belt. Motor bearings run easy and smooth. Drum turns by hand fairly easy, same as it always has done. New drum seal and rear bearing fitted 6 months ago. When belt is fitted and start switch is depressed there is a buzzing noise but motor does not turn. With top cover off and drum is helped to turn by hand when buzzing, motor will run and continue to turn drum until drum stops to reverse when buzzing starts again and motor will not turn the drum again, as if motor has too little torque.

Tumble Dryer Belts Archives How to Repair Home Appliances
You are referring to the rear drum bearing that has worn away..
It means replacing the rear bearing and drum shaft.
It comes in a repair kit which you can obtain from Hotpoint.
It comes complete with fitting instructions.
Go the Hotpoint web site, and you should be able to order the parts on line.
You will find a groove towards the middle of the drum. This is the path the belt will run on.Just put the belt around the drum and then around the pulley of the motor. You may find on your model a spring loaded tensioner that you can move with your fingers. This will allow you to put it on without loosening the motor from its frame. They are pretty easy to put on. You may want to remove the top of the dryer if you are having trouble working with the belt. There is not much clearance in there. Total time needed with taking the top off is about 30 minutes. Let me know if you have any problems.
Sounds like the motor is turning but the belt is not so, the belt is just setting there burning. You should be able to turn the drum by hand, check the drum rollers and the belt tension roller.
