Hand wheel is binding - seems to be a problem with the plastic gears inside, but I don't see that there are any warn spots on them or on any belts. Any suggestions?

First, take a look at page 68 in your user's manual. If you don't have it, you can download it free at the Singer Sewing machine site. You can (and periodically should) remove the face plate over the thread path for cleaning and oiling. There are probably threads wrapped around a part there, and in addition, you can take a flashlight and look to see if there might be threads underneath the bobbin winder preventing the machine from moving.

More rarely (but possible) there may be threads wrapped around the gear underneath the bobbin basket (holds the bobbin case), so you ,may need to remove the base to access that part, but it's generally not a difficult process.

While you are there, it's probably time to use a little sewing machine oil and lubricate the parts, as per your user's manual.

I am missing a pattern selector module 'A' for my Singer sewing machine, model 8234

Well, there are a number of sites that have parts for older machines. Just doing a quick search, I found a copy of the user's manual at SINGER MAGIC 8134 8234 Sewing Machine Instruction Book User Manual . You might also check eBay; they generally have a wide range of parts and accessories for older machines.

Im using a singer 57815. Im having a problem with the thread bunching up at the underside of the fabric. Its not the bobbin thread that's binding but the top thread is bunching and getting stuck...

Hello

Reduce the thread tension to a lower number,Select a larger size needle,Remove and reinsert a new needle, flat side toward the back of the machine

I HAVE AQUIRED A SINGER SEWING MACHINE MODEL #9134 AND NEED A MANUAL AS WELL AS PARTS. I WOULD APPRECIATE SOME ASSISTANCE.

A free, downloadable manual for the Singer #9134 can be found here: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/1006499L.pdf
Sears has an excellent, easy-to-use catalog of your machine's parts for sale. You can find those parts at: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Singer-Parts/Sewing-Parts/Model-9134/1232/1220000
If you find that Sears is missing a part that you need, you can look up that part in this manual, record the serial number of the part, and continue your search at another authorized Singer retailer: http://parts.singerco.com/CPpartCharts/9_99999/9134.pdf
Good luck with the refurbishment of your newly acquired Singer!

What are the settings for a blind hem stitch? I've ordered the foot but can't find the settings. Singer 57815

I downloaded your manual for free at www.singerco.com and I be darned, I see why you are baffled. Call Singer at 1-800-4singer and ask them to tell you. This is a first for me to see in a machine that is not that old, my 45 year old Kenmore has the blind stitch setting. There has to be some answer to this.
