Remote doesn't work except for power-on/off and laser. On power-up, lamp lights for 5 seconds then shuts off and lamp LED indicator lights up red. After cool-down and shut-off, lamp LED indicator lights up red. After setting on the shelf for 6 months, did get lamp to light: held EXIT down for 3 seconds and it showed 327:59 hours on lamp. Unknown if it has a new lamp and lamp hours was not re-set. Could be lamp needs replacing. Lamp is properly installed.

Disconnect all inputs to the BENQ and power on. Do the lights come on as per normal operation. Does the lamp come on when the power button is pressed. Does anything show when the menu is selected.
If you are connecting to a laptop then you may need to hold the function button down and press F1, F2, F3 etc. there should be a sign with the latop on there and a sign with an external device (monitor,PROJECOR)

It may be the lamp is out. Normally a projector will try & fire the lamp 3-5 times then shut down with a different color light like amber or red. If the lamp doesn't light then it could be the lamp or perhaps the lamp ballast that starts the lamp has failed. A stuck fan also causes similar symptoms. There's 2-4 fans in the projector if one is stuck or bad it will turn off within 5 seconds or so after the lamp lights.
Does your lamp light at all? Are the lights a different color after it shuts down? Answers to these questions help figure out what's wrong though it's impossible to say for sure without looking at it. if the status light is flashing .5 seconds on and 2.5 seconds off - you need to replace the lamp cover correctly.
if the status light is flashing .5 seconds on and .5 seconds off in 2 - 6 cycles the error is:
2 cycles - the projector is overheated. Move the projector to a cooler location, or/and remove dust in the light path.
3 cycles - the power unit is not working correctly.
4 cycles - the fans are not working correctly
5 cycles - lamp fails to light. Wait a full minute and then turn on again.
If it is a lamp error try this: When the lamp exceeds 2100 hoursof service, the projector cannot turn on and the manu is not displayed. Do the following: For VT670/VT470 Press the help button on the remote control for a minimum of ten seconds. For VT570/VT47 Press and hold the power and the exit buttons on the remote control simultaneously for a minimum of ten seconds. When the lamp time clock is reset to zero, the lamp indicator goes out.
