At the startup, right after Compaq logo appears on the screen, the screen goes dark and stays dark so I can't see or do anything. System botts up. Any idea what to do?

If all else fails - Try RESETTING the IPOD
How to reset an iPod
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button until the screen goes dark. The Apple logo should appear after a few seconds, then the Home screen should appear.
Apparently your Acer cannot find the operating system. As soon as the Acer logo comes up, there should appear in one of the bottom corners "F" & a number should appear. Immediately start pressing that F number (top row of keyboard). This should take you to a boot screen. Scroll down to boot sequence. Hit enter. Make sure boot-up sequence is CD or floppy drive first, second should be HDD, then escape. Restart computer. Should then boot off CD drive. I am assuming you have an operating system (XP, windows, etc.). Let me know if this doesn't work.
1 - You may need to roll back system with System Restore. Under Safe Mode (press F8 during boot and choose safe mode). Win 7 - Start > Search type System Restore XP - Is Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Restore. Now choose a date prior to problem. You may have to try a few dates.
2 - Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.
on startup time press F8 for no of times. From option click repair and continue with instruction,When asking for password ,change user name and click enter
If your computer has a single operating system installed, press
and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the
Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again by
waiting until the Windows logon prompt
appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow
keys to highlight the operating system you want to repair, and then press and
hold F8.
On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the
arrow keys to highlight Repair your computer, and then
press ENTER. (If Repair your computer is not listed as an
option, then your computer does not include Startup Repair as a preinstalled
recovery option.)
Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.
Select a user name and enter the password, and then click OK.
On the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup
Repair. Startup Repair might prompt you to make choices as it tries to
fix the problem and, if necessary, it might restart your computer as it makes
repairs.This should solve your problem
Usually system stops at the startup screen or the startup logo, when it finds some fault in detecting the IDE drives(ie,your harddisk or cd drive), if you dint get any get stuck in the logo, you have to see what happens at the background by clicking on f1 key or f12 or TAB or some key to show the activity rather than logo.....
After seeing the error we can conclude or decide about the problem, but when you were not able to see the screen after pressing any key as specified in your manual, Or it hangs after the LOGO screen, this must be problem with your harddrive, try changing the harddish or try connecting once again by removing it...
Seems the screen is slow to start up, right after pressing the power button, keep tapping on f1 or f10 untill the bios screen or something else comes up. that will definitely get you into the bios and dont mind if the computer starts to beep, slow down a little and keep tapping.
if in the starting it is showing two operating system then make sure that which one is working and which one you want to remove
then boot your system with xp and right click on the my computer icon> go to properties >click on the advanced tab > then choose startup and recovery setting > there you will see defaukt operating system if it is showing two operating system then remove the OS which you dont want. Be careful to use this option.you can reduse the time limit also.
