Check to see if your condensor fan motor is running, should be behind the refrigerator backing plate and close to your compressor. Usually caused by a very dirty condensor unit. You have to vacuum, brush or blow out the condensor coils at least once a year to prevent overheating damage and to save 100.00 to 300.00 a year in electricity. If this is not the problem then let me know if the smell is coming from inside the freezer, refer section, or underneath.

The burning smell could be due to gas leakage in the engine compartment. The gas smell is being sucked into the fresh air intake of the air conditioner. It can be avoided by checking either fuel pressure regulator or fuel injector.
