The washer drum will turn in the spin cycle, however it changes direction multiple times during the cycle as if its still trying to aggitate in the wash cycle...and it never gets up to the high speed to completely drain the drum.
P.S. just replaced the Controller Assembly, SPD in middle of December.

I think your on the right track but a couple of things you need to know first that model washer wont spin tiny loads or one articles of clothing it has a device in the motor called a tacho generator to balance if you have only a small load it cant sense the balance and most of the time will only rock back and forth second your pump is the most likely culprit if you look in side the washer you will see a seem in the tub next to that will be one of the washer tumblers take the screws out of that tumbler slide it forward there will be a hole there rotate the tub to your right and you will find the hole going down to the drain pump can check it there but i don't think you'll find any thing as that is a larger hole it think your drain pump is now if you have a shop vac this is time to vacuum the water of the tub and all the way down the drain hole for the next stage usally i tell customers to remove the drain hose from the stand pipe and vacuum the water out of the washer from the drain hose but because of the pillow this might not work in your case. Now remove the two screws on the front lower panel and pull the panel
in side you will see the drain pump if you did not have a shop vac go to the auto parts store and buy a pair of radiator hose clamps and clamp the hose line as close to the washer as possible.(but put down some towels as water always stays there) then pull the tub to pump hose by depressing the squeeze clamp(now while your at the auto parts id get a screw clamp to replace the spring clamp it makes putting the hose back on a lot easier)pull the hose off.Then pull the pump to drain hose off .Remove the two 5/16 in screws securing the pump to the washer base.Unplug the connector and remove the pump inspect the pump for foreign objects,broken or stripped impeller blades . if the impeller are stripped you will have to replace the pump then form the front of the washer take your finger and feel up in the large rubber hose for any thing in there the drain pump should turn pretty freely if nothing is restricting it
hey ice ididnt catch the part about draining and filling look to see if your drain hose is too far down in your stand pipe shouldnt be but about 5 inches ifn too much will constantly siphon water out and will stop to fill a lot try that first
well if all that's fine about the only thing it could be is a faulty tacho generator on the drive motor let me see the testing procedures for that
and ice i wasnt talking drain blockage i was talking drain siphoning if your hose is too far down in the drain it will continually siphon water out of the washer causing it to stop and fill constantly that will throw it off im going to send you a shop manuel rather im going to try if you will e mail me at [email protected]

If the water is draining quickly (less than 30 secs) every time, than it sounds like its sensing an out of balance load, the CCU looks for this.... Before every spin cycle it goes through an out of balance routine it will do this even when empty.....It speeds up, slows down and will tumble again at least once....then speeds up ....looks at motor amps......decelerates.....looks at rate of deceleration.......Then decides if its ok to spin at the high speed...or if it should tumble again to distribute the clothes....If it cant balance itself to what it like than it will spin at a lower speed like yours is doing if its bad enough than it wont spin at all really (very slow). Im sure you checked the shocks while you were looking at the pump, but double check that there not broken at the mounts, or lots of grease at the base mount. If thats all good than you should try this......Sort a large size load of just regular tshirts and casual wear (no towels, jeans). Let me know how it spins then. Also make sure that its draining quickly every time. Sometimes the drain pump can appear fine and not be starting every time.
What cycle did you use??? Sometimes if you dont get the timer in the perfect spot it goes past like 6 minutes of the wash and on the shorter washes there may be like only 4min left. Ive never heard of a timer advancing too fast. You have to get it perfect on the very beginning. Is there a spin speed selection switch??
FYI... The speed control that you replaced controls the timer by energizing the timer motor anytime the timer advances
The spin speed is a usually a user controlled switch that feeds the speed control with current to either select high or low refer to tech sheet/ wiring diagram to verify that all these are working proper

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. As you know the clothes r piling up and it's great to have response so timely.
I did pull off the lower front cover and uninstall the pump. It was free of any obstructions and seems to run fine however it doesn't seem to spin as freely as I would think it should. I took the pump apart to insure that there was not anything stuck but as u know the driver is sealed so I can't really get inside. Should the pump shaft spin more free or is there some compression to the turn?
Second, when I turn the switch to a setting anywhere in the spin cycle it seems to be burdened trying to start the process, like it's thinking or stuck. It seems as if the washer electrically is acting sporadically...the activity is not consistent.
Having said that I haven't had success yet fixing the original problem...it still will not acheive the top speed on final spin.

I did sort through all of your suggestions however, they didn't seem to solve the problem. It still spins at a very slow rate. Shocks look good so do the mounts. And I noticed while I sat in front of the machine during the a cycle, that the drum was filling and emptying with water quite frequently. Even after I started the T-shirt load it drained the soapy water almost immediatley and filled with fresh water. After that it rotated back and forth a few times, drained and then filled again. Seemed kind of weird to me. I'm not sure I've notice that much water in and out before during a cycle. I'm wondering if it's possible that the main timer switch/knob might be failing? How would I know? Just a guess.
Any other ideas?

Yes dr. there is a spin speed selection...fast or normal. However, it reacts the same way whether it's on fast or normal. It's almost like it's stuck in one mode and can't switch between wash and rinse.

tech 17...thanks for the info. Unfortunately I am well versed on the drain blockage as we had that problem a few weeks ago. So ia have check the pump, the coin catch, and the hoses. There is nothing clogged and the pump motor seems to run ok.
The drum still will not spin at high speed.

in drain/spin, will not get up to full speed. Slowly rolls cw & ccw a few times and then quites. I assume it is sensing out of balance but I've added seveal towels and also removed part of the load.... still the same behavior.
thats something is restricting the drain flow so the washer is senseing an out of balance condition and is counter rotating to try and balance it do you have a removable kick plate at the front of the washer at the bottom secured by two screws if so
First if you have a wet vac pull the drain hose out of the drain spout and use the vac to pull the water out of the washer through the drain hose.If not you will need a pair of radiator hose clamps from the auto parts store. Pull the screws from the lower panel at the front of the washer and remove it.in side you will see a rubber hose coming down from the tub to the drain pump. Put the radiator hose clamp there if you didn't have a shop vac.On the front of the pump is a round part with a handle turn that and remove the pump filter .Clean any foreign objects out of the pump and look inside the pump to make sure no impeller blades are broken if any are you will have to replace the pump. put the filter back in and tighten it. If you had to use the hose clamp remove it now.reassemble and don't forget to give the tech his four boxes if this fixes it
