HT-X40 Configure to play DVD's in 1080i?

I've got the HT-X40 strapped up to a 40" Samsung...
And I can't figure out for the life of me how to watch DVD's in 1080i or 720p.
As soon as I plugged in the HDMI, with DVD in, it immediately came up saying 480p Resolution. Kind of defeats the purpose of having an upconverter if you can't watch higher than 480.

Any of you folks that have this, can you please steer me in the right direction? Thanks a lot. (-:

You have to be in stop mode i.e. in dvd/cd mode but stopped.you hold down the SD/HD button which is in the lower left area of the remote.after a few seconds the screen will go blank and then come back on and say 720p and you repeat the process and it'll say 1080i.hope that helps

I got ahtx-40 and after running for a while it displays protection and the power goes off. helppppppp!!!!!

I have the same HT-X40 home theater as you do, and my problem seems similar to yours. It'srelated to overheating. First check the fan and air flow from it. Ifit's OK, the problem can be inside the unit. In my case one of theoutput filter capacitors got broken - it had a crack on its body.Replacement of the capacitor fixed the shutdown on protection.
Anotherquestion is what damaged the cap. Preliminary I consider placement ofthe capacitors as a possible problem - they are too close to the outputinductors which can get relatively hot even at normal workingcondition. Cannot play DVD's or CD's at all!

Wow, doesnt sound good. My only thought is that on new devices they often have tape and cardboard inserts to protect the device for shipping. Make sure there isnt any tape or packing material stuck somewhere in the device. Otherwise it must just be a bad player. They shouldnt have any problems exchanging it since you just got it. Good luck!
