No sim card. verizon has an application called Backup Assistant.. It is free if you havea My Verizon account. 1.99 if you dont. It is fast take about 2imutes.Thats if you are staying with Verizon changing , upgrading phones

Verizon uses a network type called CDMA which does not use nor allow the use of SIM cards. If you were looking to transfer all of your information to another device, you're going to have to do it manually by punching the names and numbers in to the new device.
Some stores/kiosks do have a cable they can use to transfer your information for you, but they'll likely charge in excess of $40 USD for this service.

That's correct, you would need to purchase a new phone from Verizon, one little trick though is to get yourself a pre-paid device, and you can have them swap that phone onto your current account. This will allow you to get a good phone for a really affordable price and still not have to worry about extending your contract with them.
Just make sure when you buy a prepaid device, you do not activate as a prepaid phone, the "free minutes" that will come with the phone are just going to disappear, they're only good for Pay and Talk devices.
