Hello there, We bought our Hitachi hd tv less than 2 years ago . Last night whilst watching the tv, the picture suddenly went blurred, almost like 3d with the red, blue and green not lined up in the images on screen, the screen then went very dark, you can still see the images but behind a very dark blue screen and the images are still red, blue and green merged images. It is totally unwatchable now :( What do you think this could be and is it fixable? The model is a Hitachi L32HO1UA HD TV . I would be grateful for any help or suggestions.
Kind regards
ellie

toni, you`ll need a tv tech for this problem, spark gaps need to be cleaned, crt sockets need to be cleaned and crt pins on all 3 crt`s need to be sanded, this is a common issue with this model set, good luck, BMW Rider

You have a problem with the STK convergence modules. They're on the
center circuit board attached to an aluminum heat sink that's about 8"
long and 6" tall. You may be able to recreate the problem (hour glass
effect) by gently moving the heat sink (which the modules are connected
to). This gives the hour glass effect on the picture and the advanced
convergence screen. This is an indication that the modules pins aren't
solidly connected (meaning soldered) properly. Remove the circuit board
and clean the old solder off & resolder the modules pins to the
circuit board reconnected the board and then retest by again pushing on
the heat sink. The "factory" job was good enough for 3-4 years
but the heat (and these modules do create a lot of heat) and stress
created from repeated use eventually takes it's toll, weakens the pin
connections and our problem occurs. take the appropriate cautions
working around the high voltage of the set & use a non-conducting
piece of wood to push the heat sink when doing tests.
If soldering doesn't help, then the modules have died and need
replacing. Don't buy the $10 cheap ones. Most of them have
an upgraded version that is stronger. Also look for any burned
resistors in the vicinity of the modules.
Best of luck, hope ya fix it.

You have a problem with teh convergence circuits. This can be caused either by defective convegence ICs or even bad connections at the pins of these ICs. I would first resolder the pins on the ICs. If that fails, replace them. That should resolve the problem. These ICs are large and black, attached to a heatsink and are marked STKxxx. There should be 2 of them.

If the convergence is off more than 1/2 inch or so you can't adjust. you have a failure of hardware. most likely the output IC. This set has 2 outputs for convergence. Each output contains 3 circuits, Six circuits altogether 2 red ,2 blue and 2 green. The normal customer adjustment will only alow adjustment of blue and red. They should be converged onto the green. There is a much more complex adjustment in the service mode for Geometry and convergence. These adjustments are only needed when you replace a failed componnent like the output ic. These ICs have been upgraded several times since the production of this set. The latest and most powerfull version is STK394-160. If feel up to it I suggest changing both outputs and the corresponding output resistors. Then do a complete geometry and convergence alignment.
