USB 2.0 Host Controller on Windows 2000 Server (Emachine 5260)
To whom it concerns,
An Emachine 5260 Desktop PC. P4 2.93 Ghz. 250 GB Harddrive. 512Ram. Came Pre-installed with Windows XP Home SP2, from PC World. I re-formatted the hard disk and installed Windows 2000 Server with SP4 and rollout 1 updates, as the operating system. All works fine, apart from the USB Ports, which are USB 2.0,ports. I wand to attach and external hard disk drive as a Backup device, but these are usually USB 2.0 devices. and i can't locate a fix to restore the existing USB 2.0 ports to work as USB 2.0 ports, under Windows 2000 Server SP4 + Rollout 1,updates. Please Help??? (",)

Try removing the software for the printer again and disconnect the USB cable from the computer. Reinstall the software and after its finished reinstalling, reconnect the USB cable to computer. Many USB printers require you to install the software first without the printer connected to the computer.
Right-click My Computer on the Windows desktop and then
click Properties.
Click the Device Manager tab to display the Device Manager
window as shown at the right. (For Windows 2000 systems, click the Hardware
tab and then the Device Manager button.
In the Device Manager list, click the + sign next to Universal
serial bus controller.
Verify that a USB host controller and a USB root hub are listed below Universal
serial bus.
If Universal serial bus controller, USB host controller or USB root hub
are not listed, close the Device Manager and go to USB port incorrectly configured
in BIOS
If Universal serial bus controller, USB host controller and USB root hub
are listed but one or more display a yellow exclamation point, go to USB controller
IRQ conflict
If you have Windows XP, right-click the Host Controller and select
Properties from the drop-down menu. If you see this status message in the
Properties window: The drivers for this device are not installed (code 28),
go to Windows XP USB 2.0 driver not installed .
If Universal serial bus controller, USB host controller and USB root hub
are listed but one or more display a red X, go to USB controller or root hub
disabled in Windows Device Manager.

see heres the thing when using VM-Ware, VM-Ware doesnt use drivers for your physical hardware, because it emulates the hardware that is seen in the hardware information of your system preferences.
So installing even drivers for the "emulated" hardware will not work, as VM-Ware uses its own drivers for the hardware, which are included with the VM-Ware Tools, if that doesnt seem to work, you may want to contact VM-Ware support, as they may have a better solutiuon.
