Hi there and welcome here
Try for your corrupted files to run "chkdsk", for that you need to highlight the drive where your files are stored (normally it is C:) and then choose properties, on the second tab you choose check this drive for errors and check all the possibilities and press ok to all. restart the computer and let the program run (it takes a little bit time to run, it have 5 sections to run). After the computer will restart and you can use it :O)
About Download Manager, i can recommend one, it is Free Download Manager, you can get it for free here :
http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/I use it by my self and you can disable the auto download from the Manager when you only have to download small files. Actually I use it for huge files :O), otherwise I use the integrated download from IE 8 (Internet Explorer 8).
