I have a miscrosoft wireless laser mouse 6000, and it also stopped working on my laptop. I changed the battery, still not working. I tested the battery in another device, and it was good. I moved the mouse to another computer, and it did not work. The light on the usb connector was lit. [No changes at all to my laptop.]. It seemed like there was no power to the mouse, and I looked at the contacts inside the mouse. The contact just inside the battery opening appeared to be bent down away from the contact on the battery tray. So, I pulled it up a little so it would connect when the battery drawer closed, and (after tweaking it a couple of times), it finally worked!
Under the mouse there is a white button.
I just pressed it and it started working.
Try moving the receiver closer. I found nothing to work until I moved my receiver right next to the keyboard and mouse, and then they worked just fine, no reset necessary!
My mouse is not working all the sudden. So I bought the new mouse the tried it with all three USB ports, but still not working. What is wrong?

The red light on the bottom of the mouse does not apear, I changed the batteries and resynchonized as per vidio with no luck. I also changed the plug in for the reciever 3.0A
checked the batteries for connection and changed again, no luck.
As a last resort I purchased another set of batteries and low and behold IT WORKS! The batteries I purchased prior must have been bad. I would like to thank you for all your help.
Have a happy New Year,
Allen
It may simply be time to change out your mouse. I have the same mouse and I have gone through the entire process without issue. As soon as I insert the batteries, the optical red light comes on. As yours does not, it sounds like a mouse failure. I know of no one that works on a mouse, at least more cheaply than purchasing a new one.
Still sounds like a battery issue. Are you sure the batteries are new and good? Are you positive they are in correctly + and - to correct contacts?
Did you resynchronize the way Microsoft says to do?http://www.microsoft.com/video/en/us/det...
