As a last resort I purchased another set of batteries and low and behold IT WORKS! The batteries I purchased prior must have been bad. I would like to thank you for all your help.
    Have a happy New Year,
    Allen

It may simply be time to change out your mouse. I have the same mouse and I have gone through the entire process without issue. As soon as I insert the batteries, the optical red light comes on. As yours does not, it sounds like a mouse failure. I know of no one that works on a mouse, at least more cheaply than purchasing a new one.

Still sounds like a battery issue. Are you sure the batteries are new and good? Are you positive they are in correctly + and - to correct contacts?

Did you resynchronize the way Microsoft says to do?http://www.microsoft.com/video/en/us/det...

I have a miscrosoft wireless laser mouse 6000, and it also stopped working on my laptop. I changed the battery, still not working. I tested the battery in another device, and it was good. I moved the mouse to another computer, and it did not work. The light on the usb connector was lit. [No changes at all to my laptop.]. It seemed like there was no power to the mouse, and I looked at the contacts inside the mouse. The contact just inside the battery opening appeared to be bent down away from the contact on the battery tray. So, I pulled it up a little so it would connect when the battery drawer closed, and (after tweaking it a couple of times), it finally worked!

Try moving the receiver closer. I found nothing to work until I moved my receiver right next to the keyboard and mouse, and then they worked just fine, no reset necessary!

My Logitech mouse suddenly stopped working. I replaced the battery and it still doesn't work. The red light on the mouse is not blinking anymore.

take the reciever part that is in the computer and push the button in the middle, then push the button on the bottom of the mouse (make sure the batteries in it are new), that should work

My microsoft wireless laser mouse 6000 went out all of a sudden tried to change the battries but that didn't work the keyboard is working just fine, help!! i love this mouse, thanks marsha

You may just need to push the reset buttons on the antenna and under the mouse. That forces the mouse to reconnect to the wireless.

Mine does this once in a while. Normally it just works after putting fresh batteries in but once in a while I have to push all the resets to get it to behave.

There will be a button in the middle of the antenna. And if you look at the bottom of the mouse there will either be a red button or a small hole (use a toothpick). You need to push the button and release. Try just the mouse button first. If that doesn't get it then push the antennna then the mouse. Your user manual will have a diagram and a step by step on how do this if you need it.

It stopped working completely. had to plug

There is a reset button on the bottom that needs to be pushed with a ballpoint pen after exchanging the battery. Make sure you face the mouse towards the reciever while resetting it. Thanks, Dana
