I am receiving error message of : 86:01 Possible paper jam

I am receiving error message of : "86:01 Possible paper jam". I have removed the (non-jammed) paper, restarted with no luck. Previously received an error message of "reseat print cartridge" - I was prompted to turn off printer and when restarted, then received the "possible paper jam" error. Appreciate any ideas - thanks!

Most times when this error occurs it is because of one of three things:

1. Paper jammed in the carriage path that prevents the printhead from moving all the way from left to right. Check closely on the far left and right as paper can be pushed into the interior of the printer by the service station.
2. The printhead cover was not closed properly and the metal ring that that the blue handle is supposed to engage in is catching on the side of the printer.
3. The drive belt has either come off the track or broken. Open the lid and check the black rubber belt that drives the printhead assembly. It should be taunt. If it is loose there is a problem. I have had several 1100 series designjets throw their belt off the tension pulley. You can sometimes reseat it but my experience is that it will get thrown again. If you replace the belt, replace the tensioner at the same time.

SOURCE: hp 2355 all in one error message

mine HP was acting the same way after a jam. I contacted hp and they told me it was a hardware issue and that I would need to purchase a new printer. I found a KB on thier site for this issue. It involved removing both ink carts and then reseting the printer with the ink carts out. it seemed to work.

SOURCE: i keep getting a problem error 86:01

In addition to this, the so called encoder strip may be dirty and needs cleaning. The encoder strip has many tiny lines on it, that the carriage sensor counts to determine its location in the printer environment. If this strip gets dirty, the carriage sensor will read several lines as one and in the end it will try to go past the carriage path; when obstructed it perceives this as a paper jam.

The encoder strip is located just behind the slider rod, the shiny rod that guides the carriage back and forth. The encoder strip should be cleaned with a lint-free cloth wetted with clean and luke-warm water (no water allowed to drip into the printer!). Be careful not to pull hard on the encder strip, it can VERY easilly break or jump off its attachment points!

First gently slide the carriage over to the left and clean the right part of the encoder strip, then slide the carriage over to the right and continue with the left side of the strip. Note: Always clean FROM the right side to the left, since the strip is attached to a hardpoint on the right side of the printer and to a leaf spring on the left side. According to Murphy's Law, pulling on the leaf spring WILL make the encoder strip jump off the hardpoint hook on the right side, causing a mess to get it back! (not supported...)

But in many cases this solves the 86.01 error message, hope it does this time as well.

SOURCE: paper jam leading to error code sc440-01

I think the code is a black pcu motor lock. Replacing the black pcu might fix it, but the black waste toner section could be backed up.

Error paper jam

It is possible that there is a little peice of paper that has ripped off of the sheet that was jammed. Was the sheet whole when you removed it? If not, check the location where the paper was jammed for bits of the last sheet of paper.

It said to open from cover and remove paper I did and It dont work

If you receive an "Open front cover" error message the solution is to open the cover and remove the paper and any remnants of the paper jam. If there is no obvious paper remnants jamming the printer and you continue to receive an error message I would suggest unplugging the printer from the power source.

After 5 - 10 minutes plug in to power source.

Turn on printer.

See if this has resolved error message. If not you will need to check more carefully for paper remnants that would be causing the printer to detect a jam.

Trust this is helpful. :)

Took out all possible paper, but keeps saying there is a paper jam

This error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

When printing paper continues to jam.

  1. Take out paper tray 1.
  2. Remove any jammed sheets of paper you find there.
  3. Once you have done this, reinstall the paper tray and try printing again.
Note: You may receive a message informing you that another sheet of paper is jammed elsewhere in the printer. If so, please open the front door and remove the toner cartridge. Also open the rear door of the printer (and the duplex option if a duplex unit is installed). Remove any and all jammed sheets of paper you find. Then try printing again.
  4. If the printer jams again with a 241 Paper Jam error message, look to see if it has tried to feed a sheet of paper out of the tray.

I can neither send or receive faxes

hi 003 - Recording paper jammed when feeding from the 3rd cassette. Remove the jammed paper. (1) Open the Printer Cover. (2) Remove the jammed paper. (3) Slide out the Paper Cassette. (4) Remove the jammed or wrinkled paper and reload the recording paper into the paper cassette. Caution: Make sure that the paper is set under the clips of the Paper Cassette. You can load about 500 sheets with standard weight paper (20 lb. or 75 g/m2). good luck
